Proposed sick policy
Given mental health "awareness" is plastered all over Royal Mail notice boards, and given the obvious physical nature of the job - both leading easily in cases to potential multiple sickness periods . . .how can the CEO even begin to justify the newly proposed sick policy.
Saying that a relatively small percentage of staff have more sick than anyone else is simply probably because they need it for various reasons.
Mental health problems and / or injury repetition aren't just going to magically fix themselves because of a return to work interview. Not to mention a very wide range of other illnesses. I simply mention these two as examples.
The threat of Statutory Sick Pay could indeed simply put pressure on the member of staff to try to go to work when they really should not, making their health even worse than before.
It's one of a many backward step for a modern business. Back to the Victorian Days with this one.

Re: Proposed sick policy
You're right. The problem is that RM monitor sick leave. And in every office there's always a small number who take the piss. Got one in our office who openly admits to colleagues that he plays the system. While that is going on then RM will target sick pay.

Re: Proposed sick policy
So who told Si about the colleague in your office?
No one.
Si don't know about them.
They're not causing 250m quid in sick pay.
Would they not be so bothered as to go after sick pay if it was, let's say 200m quid? 100m?
The greedy c***s just don't want you on the sick or to pay you for it.
But Si's got everyone turning on and blaming others for what HE is doing.
Remember fascism didn't start with concentration camps.
It started with appealing to stupidity.
Divide and rule.
Si's numbers and reasoning have been pulled apart time and again on this board and still people line up to drink the kool aid.
Don't dance for the c***s.
Vote f**k Si.

Re: Proposed sick policy
One person in my old office who has just clocked 20 years openly gloats that this must be the only job in the country that gives you 8 weeks holiday per year plus bank holidays!
This person plans his annual year to include 2 weeks sick.
Another looks at the rota if they want a particular day off to travel to support their football team, sees it isn't available so just throws regular sickies in order to go.
Imagine if this is happening country wide over 140,000 employees.
THESE minorities are the ones that are putting your brilliant sick policy at risk!

Re: Proposed sick policy
Royal Mail do occasionally clamp down on the piss takers, we had one sacked for going "sick" on the same week every year
I do agree with the OP though.

Re: Proposed sick policy
I don't believe it's anything to do with the small minority, they're just using this to divide us and with some of the comments above it seems to be working.
It's everyone of us they're after and the savings would be massive.

RM should ensure Doms deal with and implement the conduct code to its final conclusion to those that openly take the pee.

Re: Proposed sick policy
And how would they do that im pretty sure they dont openly flaunt fake sick to the managers probably more to their colleagues like they do in our office end of the day dont know why some people get their knickers in a twist about it, in my experience the ones complaining about it in ours are the ones who come to their work with their legs hanging off as if the gaffers are gonna appreciate they didnt go sick jesus christ your just a number to these arseholes

Re: Proposed sick policy
I agree that it's a managers duty and responsibility to deal with the minority. Every week our DOM gathers all posties (about 300) to tell them that a tiny minority are spoiling it for everyone. He says the same for people coming back very early , going straight home after delivery and never signing in or out. He says "we know who they are" but in the 6 years I've been there no action has ever been taken against anyone. Nobody takes any notice any more. To be honest he should just record the stuff and play it over the tannoy once a week. Then we wouldn't have to waste 15 minutes listening to it every time.

Re: Proposed sick policy
I agree with what you say on management's failure to deal with it, but if it wasn't for the minority abusing it in the first place the subject may not always be in the spotlight of the ivory towers.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑26 Jul 2022, 08:42No they're not.THESE minorities are the ones that are putting your brilliant sick policy at risk!
