It would have been so easy and our initial thoughts were this is not the environment to reach an agreement, however sometimes you have protect our members and local reps by getting involved even thou it would be unpopular.
By getting involved we have
1. Reduced by 19% Royal Mails cuts to CSPs.
2. Kept open on a Sunday 88 CSPs who we’re going to close.
3. Protected those duty holders who would have dropped two categories and had their hours significantly reduced.
4. A sensible and pragmatic case by case issue in resolving any duty problems.
Sometimes it is easy for you and others to snipe and criticise but you don’t see the hundreds of emails we get if Royal Mail impose anything wanting the CWU to get involved and resolve issues.

1. Royal Mail wanted to close 168 CSP which had less than 10 items per hour that is once customer every 6 minutes. By negotiating with Royal Mail we save 88 of those offices by changing the formula to 7 mins.
Am I the only one who thinks it funny that while delivery has to work every paid second in the rain, in the heat etc etc the callers offices that serve one person every 6 minutes have been saved from closure.
As we have 2 people in our CSP that means in 4 hours they will have served 40 people between them. 20 each in 4 hours.
Crikey that must be stressful.

At ours they also have to book in 739’s. Deal with incoming/outgoing lorry’s. Cover any boxes/collections that have been missed. Like you I don’t think Royal Mail know exactly what they are axing.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 14:131. Clash City Rocker - your message read like you are agreeing with Simon and that CSP should be closed and duty's lost.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 14:131. There is much more to the CSP then just handing out 5 packets per hour. MY office has one person who assist the collection divers, deals with complaints before the DOM or Customer care get involved. Lots of indoor work such as maintain D2Ds, redirections to name a few.
The main point is that in two weeks people are going to lose there duties and moved onto different shift patterns and roles,
Maybe it doesn't effect you but when it happens to you good luck.
Kind Regards
A fellow CWU member and Clash fan (Joe Strummer would not be impressed with your message ) !

I think if people were serving 5 people/hour (or maybe 7 on a busy day) and didn't realise the job was not sustainable then they were incredibly naive
and Joe agrees with me.

There are plenty jobs in the business that don't look that demanding from the outside, it doesn't mean they are.
I don't think we should be undermining each other at this point.
In the last week the locker/CSP has seen cuts in hours, some closing altogether, the loss of international tracked/signed for and potentially more loss in footfall if this trial of automatic redelivery goes national.
These are people with bills to pay and families to feed, some of them are members with disabilities.
The union has chosen to sacrifice some of them for the "greater good".
It's a shite state of affairs if we're now piling on.

Serving customers collecting parcels, recieving click and drop parcels, dealing with missed consumer collections and collections on deliveries boxes on lapsed walks which the managers haven't bothered to get covered as well as dealing with customer complaints when posties misdeliver parcels.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 15:09I think if people were serving 5 people/hour (or maybe 7 on a busy day) and didn't realise the job was not sustainable then they were incredibly naive

Working in the CSP is not just about waiting on customers coming in to pick up their parcels...

Am I not right in saying that the locker duties are signed for the same as other duties? So its not necessarily the people in the locker who are losing employment? Seniority would still come into play.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 15:15There are plenty jobs in the business that don't look that demanding from the outside, it doesn't mean they are.

So these changes can affect those further down the chain if reducing overall headcount

These duties are suitability and seniority which basically means the most senior locker trained member gets the duty.Am I not right in saying that the locker duties are signed for the same as other duties?
The problem is a lot of these members took the role due to health issues and are not physically able to return to delivery.
Most of them will end up pushed out the door on IHR terms.
I can already hear the sighs of not give a f**k but these are people, not a target for abuse.

More than likely it will be a case that those working in the CSP, and are unable to go back on delivery due to health issues will be pushed out the door via IHR.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 15:38These duties are suitability and seniority which basically means the most senior locker trained member gets the duty.Am I not right in saying that the locker duties are signed for the same as other duties?

At the end of the day, clash, it's not a competition to see who has the "hardest" job. Who knows, perhaps there may become a time you would benefit from a redeployment into the CSP / locker on health grounds rather than facing dismissal on capability grounds.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 14:131. Thinking that the CSP duty is just serving 5 people/hour or stretching to 7 per hour could be classed as being very naive.
And Joe would never agree with you and Simon, as people will be losing their jobs for the benefit of making profits for shareholders.

You can't have a redeployment into a role that is disappearing.
If people aren't using the CSP point then nobody is going to be working in there.
Given all the other tasks that the CSP staff are doing, why is anyone going to lose their job?

Because if the CSP is closing 3 hours earlier each day, then that'll give more time for existing staff to deal with booking in p739s.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 16:06You can't have a redeployment into a role that is disappearing.

So if someone is doing that, as well as covering the CSP staff breaks (as a equality act redeployment), that'll probably mean that individual out of a job.

Is there a hard copy of what category each office goes into? Can't open the downloaded list.
