I genuinely thought that was a wind up when I posted it earlier. This is why they want to pilot in the Doncaster area that every parcel that cannot be delivered on the first day automatically goes out the second day to be delivered and only then the 739.

Well now you asking a lot for someone unaccustomed to work?ted_e_bear wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 17:30Let's look at it from a different perspective, we have a "manager", a Dom or is it now Com support Phg type person, so what's the issue with keeping the CSP open for whatever time the DO is open, there's always someone in the building and it can't be that difficult for them to pause whatever YouTube video or mobile game they're playing to break off and go hand a parcel over.
The point I'm making is why do we actually need to limit the opening hours when there's always someone available to attend to a visitor, it's not like a shop where there has to be a person sat there all day.

CSP,s Should not only be about Collecting Item , they should also be available to accept items into the system ,normaly later than the local Post Officewallan wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 06:34I have checked with the them Manager 16 years ago were taking in more than £200,000 a yearwallan wrote: ↑22 Jul 2022, 18:54Yes we Sold Stamps ,clashcityrocker wrote: ↑22 Jul 2022, 16:50Do you mean you weighed items and sold the postage?
Otherwise as far as I know they have always been available for posting items.
From my experience at least 50% of the people who pass through the CSP would be very happy if we started selling stamps.
We were a MC / DO , with Sunday Collections / Despatches
We were open M-F 0700 - 2100 , Sat 0700 - 1900 , Sun 1100 - 1600
If some comes in with an item & needs to buy a Spamp they should be able to do so
My local Postoffice has a Final 1030 Collection on a Sat ( which is cleared by another office ) , The final service to the MC from the Local DO to the MC is 1400
The Local DO should be open & accepting items until at least 1330

I've really no idea what the fact that a DO can't handle a 17 tonner has to do with someone being able to drive and collect a parcel from somewhere that's actually open.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 16:25Over time more and more DOs are likely to be located away from the area that they cover, probably on industrial estates where they can't be reached by public transport. There's got to be loads of DOs what can't handle a 17tonner bringing the work from the MC, as time goes on my gut feeling is that RM will want all DOs to be able to handle 17tonnersted_e_bear wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 16:17I thought the caller's office was actually a "jewel in our crown" advantage over every other parcel firm that use corner shops etc, seems I was mistaken RM don't appear to care about offering the best service anymore.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 15:29They will be wanting more people to use Local Collect tooSurreypostie wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 12:28As a postman, at work when my deliveries are made. How do I ever get to the local office to collect any items that have been docketed for me if they are only open when I am at work? No point simply bringing it back tomorrow as I won't be there tomorrow either. Typical money saving exercise, no thoughts for the customer at all.

And the CWU is wanting a yes vote to protect terms and conditions, except if you work in a CSP then you get sold down the river.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 17:40
Well it's a bit more complicated than that Martin.
By agreeing these closures the union has actually cut the feet from the offices most affected leaving them with little chance of putting up a fight at local level.
Perhaps that was the plan?
After all we don't want any local issues getting in the way of the bigger picture do we?
The bottom line is while Royal Mail are attacking members from all directions and the union is thumping the tub this joint agreement/mitigation /capitulation call it what you want looks a little out of kilter with the surrounding landscape.
It just doesn't sit well with the members Martin, it really doesn't, it's yet another mess that local reps will have to explain and clean up.

There are two people in my depot that have worked in the callers office for many years because of physical injuries. Injuries that occured doing their job. They can't walk a duty, one doesn't have a driving license but has been paying union fees for over three decades. Yet this is how the CWU repay them? Really?

It's the location. DOs that can handle 17tonners are more likely to be located in locations with very little public transport. Currently a good few DOs are located somewhere near the centre of a town so easy access for anyone going there by public transportted_e_bear wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 20:17I've really no idea what the fact that a DO can't handle a 17 tonner has to do with someone being able to drive and collect a parcel from somewhere that's actually open.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 16:25Over time more and more DOs are likely to be located away from the area that they cover, probably on industrial estates where they can't be reached by public transport. Yes I know but as I said anyone driving there to collect an undelivered parcel would be pleased that they can visit somewhere that's actually open, I don't think they'd be too interested in what sort of lorry delivers the mail there.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 22:20It's the location. How do shops that surround these DO’s get their stock if they can’t handle a 17tonner?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 22:20It's the location. They might chose to use smaller lorries. RM seem to be slowly moving over to using 17tonners for MC to DO runsClappedoutpostie wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 06:23How do shops that surround these DO’s get their stock if they can’t handle a 17tonner?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 22:20It's the location. Woody I told you that Royal Mail were going to close these CSPs on Sundays and reduce hours with or without agreement.
It would have been so easy and our initial thoughts were this is not the environment to reach an agreement, however sometimes you have protect our members and local reps by getting involved even thou it would be unpopular.
By getting involved we have
1. Reduced by 19% Royal Mails cuts to CSPs.
2. Kept open on a Sunday 88 CSPs who we’re going to close.
3. Protected those duty holders who would have dropped two categories and had their hours significantly reduced.
4. A sensible and pragmatic case by case issue in resolving any duty problems.
Sometimes it is easy for you and others to snipe and criticise but you don’t see the hundreds of emails we get if Royal Mail impose anything wanting the CWU to get involved and resolve issues.

Not only physical injuries, but affected by long term health conditions. It'll certainly affect me, I cannot do a walk or do a collection or packet delivery shift due to MS like symptoms (2 years on, still getting tests to rule things out and get a diagnosis).lofarl wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 22:06There are two people in my depot that have worked in the callers office for many years because of physical injuries. Since my office is going from a category 2, to a category 3, it's looking like I'll be paid off.
Seems to me the CSP staff have been sold down the river to save those on delivery?

2 weeks notice is not long enough to change the hours that effect peoples lives.
And thanks to the union for keeping us informed and up to date of proposed changes. We pay your wages sometimes I wonder if your working for us the members or Royal Mail.

Isn't that why we're balloting this week?Woody I told you that Royal Mail were going to close these CSPs on Sundays and reduce hours with or without agreement
Proposed change without agreement?
Are some battles not worth fighting?
Does it depend how many members get screwed over?
That's a dangerous mindset for a union.
After all London Weighting doesn't affect everyone.

Make your mind up SP, first we are having all of our work taken off us and given to the 'special' units, next you want us all to be able to handle artics, which is it?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 22:20It's the location.
