I'm afraid it looks like there this dispute is following the same old well trodden path of all the others.

A ballot over pay has suddenly become a ballot over change and a "no strings" inflation linked pay deal promised to us looks very likely to be a pay deal linked to change.

Strikes are now unlikely until mid/late September and Terry has been hung out to dry and left to look rather foolish.

There are people involved in this union who wouldn't know what trade union values meant if you tattooed them across their chest, they are very much the enemy within.

Why strike any time soon? The threat of the strike needs to be prolonged as it is causing damage, giving the CWU more leverage. Unless I'm missing something?

The CWU have been instructed by their members that the imposed pay rse of 2% is unacceptable and they wish to take industrial action. Just act on that mandate from the members FFS and give notice now. Or maybe the views of the members don't matter to the union officials any more.

Being in a position to call strikes and intending to call strikes are two entirely different things.

You've said yourself that talks won't even start until w/c 27th July and even that is optimistic.

The CWU are probably worried that any strike from the first ballot could affect the delivery of ballot papers for the second (or the returned ones to where they're counted), which could give RM fodder to get the second ballot thrown out
