Royal Mail rotating daily which streets do not receive letters, MPs told

Concerns highlighted by Labour MP Barry Gardiner are to be raised with Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng.

Royal Mail delivery offices across the country are deciding each day which streets do not receive letters after a “failure” in restructuring, MPs have heard.

Concerns highlighted by Labour MP Barry Gardiner (Brent North) are to be raised with Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng.

Mr Gardiner told the Commons: “Royal Mail delivery offices around the country are having to decide which street to rotate this morning not to get their letters.
This is because there has been a wholesale restructuring going on in Royal Mail, which was by agreement for about 1,400 managers, in fact, but there’s now a further 900 delivery office managers who are being made redundant.

“The strain is showing in the service delivery.

“So, could we have an urgent statement please from the Business Secretary about the failure of the senior management in Royal Mail to implement a restructure that actually delivers service for the people of this country?”

Commons Leader Mark Spencer replied: “Royal Mail is an organisation which I know delivers, quite literally, for our constituents up and down the country.

“People deserve their mail to arrive on time and I know lots of businesses and individuals rely on that service. I will make sure the Secretary of State is aware of his comments.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I wrote to my MP (a big name, former cabinet minister) about this in late 2020 when covid was the excuse and not failed revisions being the reason.

His initial reply was that he'd contact the Head Office of the Post Office about it. I corrected him to say it was Royal Mail, so he contacted them instead!

After a few months I chased it up and finally had a reply saying that RM denied such things happened.

Not looking good for Si & co is it. Depends on your definition of “good” though, I suppose - I’d happily take a golden handshake worth a lifetimes wages (and more).

Think he meant to say "which streets" not just "which street" do not receive letters given whole walks are being left in the frames, it would have been great if he'd also highlighted postie's are being told to concentrate on Tracked etc over hospital letters and birthday cards are, given Simon seems to be in-denial regarding that issue.

Hopefully somebody is brave enough to post his on Workplace with "Team just in, feeling a bit concerned"

I'm going in this morning to double mail and packets/parcels on a shared van delivery that was left completely in yesterday, including tracked. A fair bit of it will be having triple mail tomorrow.

I know that several offices have been caught out with late evening audits, after they declared the office as being clear.

Only drawback is that none of the results of those audits are made public, the managers get a little tap on the knuckles then it happens again after a week.

Dire service in OX4 since routes were shaken up in late 2021. We're lucky if we get post on two out of six delivery days. Royal Mail has two stock responses: a) 'gaslight' customers by insisting that everything is being delivered as normal; b) where they do admit there are problems, conflate COVID absences and 'local issues' that it won't explain, but which no doubt means their inept revision of routes. Ofcom's failure to get a grip on this cynical charade is a scandal.
