They are proposing to change the contracts. It will be sign here or the doors over there ( Asda did it last Christmas if you have a google)
No they're not.
Nobody is proposing that.
They might be thinking that but I'm coming round to the idea that thinking is in short supply at boardroom level.
Please don't promote scare stories.
Things are stressful enough for staff.
They are proposing changes to the contract
the union will get a few concessions but not many
things will change one way or another
we will be asked to sign on union agreed new terms or leave.

thats how every other change has gone.

Woody, are you saying unless sundays are part of your contract they couldn't force you to do them? Cheers
Yes it has to be either contractual or individually or collectively agreed.
With regards to collectively agreed, would that be at a national or local level do you think? And say 70% agreed, though I cant think why, would the rest have to fall in line? Cheer6
It would be up to an employment tribunal to decide whether the collective agreement was enforceable but more than likely it would have to equate to a change in contract so would have to be national.

If it were nationally agreed by a membership vote you would still be free to submit a flexible working request individually but you would need a sound legal position, not just because you couldn't be arsed.

You have to fear Simon's seen P&O get away with far worse and if the CWU won't agree then he will try and impose Sunday working, of all the changes announced he's simply got to get more regulsr staff working Sunday's, perhaps the CWU will just fudge the issue, and it'll be agreed that we still get the Sunday allowance, even if new starters don't, perhaps for just a fixed period, and then suggest that they've pulled of a victory for us.

Sunday working will happen. People will be put on the duty that covers Sunday, like any leave reserve is put on a duty now. Like it or not it will come.

If that happens I wonder what RM’s intention would be with those of us on fixed day 3 or 4 day contracts. I personally only work Mon, Tues, Fri and Sat.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

At the moment, our office covers LATs with overtime. The number of people has increased as demand has increased. The problems will start when and if people drop out, say for example, the football season starts, or it's grannies birthday. But I'm pretty certain they will bring in duties with fixed Sunday attendance if this can't be achieved. New starters are contracted to work Sundays, but there will always be a need to have more experienced staff on duty. These people will have fixed days off such as Mondays and Tuesdays.

Buy out of allowances has to be by agreement, there are guys in our place still getting the driving allowance that stopped more than 15 years ago because they turned down the buy out.
I still get the £6 per week driving allowance, which I think relates to an agreement made in 2000 or thereabouts?

A buy out has been mentioned before now, but personally I have no recollection of actually being offered one.

Am i reading this right.
Dopey Simon is making us take 2% and then backdating payment to April.
So if we do vote to strike and do get a yes vote ,we will have already been backpaid .So we will have some money to for our days we go on strike. If this is the case the union need to make sure this is told to all members .We can do more than one day full strike across country.
Surley it can't be right wot dumbarse would do this.

If you take a step back and try and look at it from a neutral perspective, difficult when it is our livelihoods he's talking about and we are all emotionally invested granted, but you'd have to say he's playing this situation in a really calm, strategic manner. The way he's dressed this 2% business up etc that he's only pushing it through to help us out because of the cost of living crisis etc. We know the real story and i just hope his message fails to hoodwink the general public.

It's going to happen, by fair means or foul, I've no doubt about that whatsoever.

The workforce have only two options now sadly, 1. go along with it.....or 2. leave.
I feel you're right. Seems to me people are (rightfully) reluctant of the needed changes though. Both the company and CWU have been so poor in their foresight of the future and have allowed "culture" to be concreted into the job. If the place was actually nice to work at (ignoring outdoor work), and managers were caring, changes in the business would be smoother by far. The upper management are also incredibly useless as the company is stuck in a rut and frankly out of date in all of its approaches to anything.

The oldies will fight and hang onto the knowledge of retirement is not long off. Young people will go elsewhere. The middle aged people will just be screwed.
