Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
"To get what he wants" is in our interests isn't it?
You either back the CWU on this or you don't, there's no other option

It is possible to back your union and still ask questions of the leadership.
This isn't North Korea even if it's starting to look like it.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
No to get what he wants is best for the majority of people. Some people will want to work Sundays and have two days in the week off, some wont want to work Sundays at all, Some will be happy to work to work 2 hours a day in summer and 10 in winter, some would prefer a flat 6 hours all year round, some will be happy to start at 10am and finish at 5pm some will want to start earlier/later.
Tels job is to navigate what pisses the least amount of people off.

This is a discussion forum.
If you just want everyone to type "I'm voting yes" the CWU Facebook page is full of that stuff but it's a bit dull for a read.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Don't we need two ballots, one for pay and one for these ridiculous proposed changes.

The union is involved in two sets of negotiations or at least it was until this morning.
The first over a one year no strings deal and the other over change.
If you think these changes aren't coming in some shape or form you're deluding yourself.
As pointed out it's Terry's job to negotiate these changes in a way that he doesn't become the most hated man in the union, he is essentially fighting for his job security as well as ours.

I agree.guardianangel wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 15:19Please lets not just strike for 1 day lets gets those ballots back and as soon as the yes vote comes back 7 days notice full 1 week strike ,and continue until that clown Thompson is gone.
Lets all have a 1 week break. We can put our legs up and recover from probably the most physically demanding job in the country. We deserve a break.
Maybe the managers can go out on some of the rounds and see what it's really like. Maybe Simon can come in and give it a go.
Meanwhile the backlog of parcels and post will be a complete mess and they will realise how much they need us.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Flexible working - via Annualised Hours and proposed form of seasonal variation via 2 weeks notice of changes. That would also include a flexitime bank system for on the day variations!
How flexible is this going to be....
I assume it's going to be approximately 30minutes difference. So in the Summer months we'd finish 30mins earlier and in winter we'd finish 30 mins later. If it's like that then fine.
It makes some sense as long as the walks are correct and you can actually finish 30 mins earlier in the Summer. Because it will be an utter piss take if Posties have these terms changed to finish earlier, but then we have managers pressuring us to stay 20 to 30 mins past our finish time.
Is there anywhere we can actually read the specifics of these terms changes they want to make?

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Allowance Reviews - consolidation of supplements, buyout of legacy payments, change to Inner and outer London weighting to an average 1 payment and phased removal of Sunday premium payments.
Sunday working a normal day and as above on a reduction to existing pay rates.
So what is this 'average 1 payment'? - what does that mean? I hope London weighting isn't going to be reduced as this will be hugely concerning. The cost of living in London and outer London areas is ridiculous. We are talking 15x a Posties salary and more to be able to afford a 2 bedroom home.
Sunday working I am against unless there is some sort of premium, ideally at least £16 an hour.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
You would have to assume an average of both payments. £87.50 across the board but it is not clear..
How many of them live in London?
Having had experience of working in outer North London most of my colleagues lived in Hertfordshire.
How many posties live in inner London?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Having read the proposals it would appear they have found a way to piss off every section and area of the business including those who haven't even started.
So the question is..
Are they incredibly off the scale stupid or are they leading us into a trap?
I'm f****d if I know anymore but their behaviour is very bizarre.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Are they going to ask the mayor of London to reduce fares in Zone 1 then? because that's the main reason for Inner and Outer London weighting.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:49You would have to assume an average of both payments. £87.50 across the board but it is not clear..

it is vastly more expensive to buy or rent a home in central London that's why nearly all people who work there live in outer London or beyond and pay the travel costs.
Because of the congestion charge and parking fees driving your own car isn't really an option.
