1. Zareena says: The Police Force, Nurses, Teachers are getting a 2 to 3% pay rise.
I say: They are all in the public sector. Royal Mail is in the private sector and massively profitable. If we look at the National Minimum Wage that's gone up 6.6%.
2. Zareena says: Royal Mail are not heading for the gig economy.....
I say: I saw an advert the other day for an 'owner-driver' job at Royal Mail. What's that all about? it was the first I'd heard about it. Is this a thing in some depots across the country?
3. Zareena says: The pay rise needs to be affordable.
I say: What is meant by affordable? the business is making almost a billion a year. Royal Mail increased the price of 1st class stamps by 12% earlier this year and has warned that they will increase prices further. So Royal Mail can charge the customer 12% with further rises to come, but can't afford to at least match the National Living Wage increase of 6.6%?
Obviously I am just focusing on 1st class stamps here, 2nd class has also gone up 3% and due to go up further. People can educate me whether or not other products have gone up in price recently or not. I would assume they have.
