In Sheffield they were telling me that actually in their region, they've actually figured out the Sunday working, and they now do an innovative duty pattern where you work so many days on and so many days, off, they feel it's working, and they also said that you know, some of the team are happy to do the Sunday they'd rather do than the Saturday, maybe they want to play football or they're involved in a football training scheme.

So so I think there are ways of being smart around this so that we have enough of the team wanting to do those duties, and it's not forcing absolutely everyone to do that.

I would not mind a 4 days on 4 days off pattern with increased pay for Sunday working. I believe Sunday parcel delivery drivers are currently paid £5 to £6 extra per hour.

+ a 6.6% pay rise to match the national living wage increase.

DOs are the only type of RM office that don't work Sundays. I can see RM starting to phase in duties that include Sundays in DOs

Si

the vast majority of Sunday’s are covered by temporary labour - that is not an economic business model - and CWU have always been clear - they want the core team to get the hours

3 of our latest new recruits have Sundays in their contract, at the moment they are not being asked to work despite 2 Sundays being advertised as overtime.
Our Dom, to be fair, could be having those Sunday hours covered as duty and using the released weekday hours as a chance for more lapsing.
Is this what is meant as mandatory Sunday working as put out by the union ?

I would have expected ALL new recruits, recruited after a certain date to have the possibility of Sunday working written into their contracts

Why don't the union put in different purposes as well as the pay rise like private health care then it would not cost as much as they have theses private firms that harass u when ur off at lest then then can get u back to work a lot sooner

All our new starts have the possibility of Sunday working written into their contract yet all our Sunday work is done by agency staff - including one of our new starts who works Mon - Sat for RM (5 out of 6) and is employed by Manpower to work at RM on Sunday.
Go figure.

Yesterday we had about 6/7 agency staff in.
There wasn't enough parcels to keep them all gainfully employed so a couple took out loops that had failed on Saturday and the rest prepped D2D.
Royal Mail are paying agency workers to prep D2D on Sunday and they have the nerve to say we need to be more efficient.
