Bigger vans, dream on. Many offices barely have enough room for their existing vans

How do you know?, you work in a mailcentre and a transit takes up one parking bay, same as a bipper.

You just need to read through various posts in the forums. Many a time people mention that they're very short on space in their yards.

From a quick google, not everyone with a car licence will be able to drive a transit, depends on when they got their license. Transits are category C, which depending on when someone got their car licence, they might not automatically have category C. Getting transits would potentially reduce the number of drivers, which is something that RM won't ever risk

A 3.5t van is not standard transit sized is it?
The vans we use are Peugeot Expert vans.

Medium transit class size.
Roughly 1.5t unloaded, 2.8t loaded.

Plenty room in them for more growth in parcels than the business will see in 10 years.

GVW options across the 2.0-litre EcoBlue Transit range are:

2,900kg in 290 series models
3,140kg in 310 series models

I can tell you what will happen if we have to scan 100s of tracked parcels when we are sorting ( after theyve already been scanned into the office) nobody will have any bloody time left to deliver anything!

99% of our oversized and 70% of our pakets are now tracked. Whos worse the muppets running the cwu or the ones running the company?

A lot of them will be able to be done without an extra scan. The delivery address is encoded in the 2D barcodes so it wouldn't need to much tweaking of software somewhere to look up the relevant walk and "tag" the item to that walk

I’m going to simplify this into pictures you can imagine as it seems you need it .
A DPD long wheelbase van (the biggest one) is drivable by anyone as it’s up to 3.5t.

If you think we’re using bigger in delivery then That cleaning fluid you’re using to clean out all the s**t from grey trays is too strong.

We do have bigger vans than that, there called trucks and driven by truck drivers to deliver the mail to us.

There are many reasons we don't use vans over 3.5t.

1. As you point out yourself it now requires an extra test to drive one.
2. Driving a van over 3.5t attracts an allowance, think it's around £25 a week.
3. Driving a van that large for roughly 10 miles a day is ridiculously expensive on fuel.
4. They are very expensive to buy/lease.
5. They are completely impractical in and around towns.
6. They are completely impractical in our yards and loading bays.

The bulk of our delivery van fleet are Peugeot vans with some Fiats and an assortment of older vehicles.

The smaller Bippers and Partners are slowly being replaced by the Peugeot Expert vans which are around the size of a transit.

We actually have a large hi-top Transit in our yard but it isn't used for delivery, it's used to transfer collections to the mailcentre if there's too much for a normal van, most of the time it just sits there gathering dust.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about anymore SP, you seem to have disappeared up your own backside but I'd appreciate if you could stop trying to tell delivery staff and especially non drivers what the future holds for them, you are way out of your comfort zone.

Get used to the idea that automation in MCs WILL have a knock-on affect in DOs. As more stuff gets automated, RM can see what mail each walk os getting and they can then choose which walks to lapse on that day. Once just about everything is automated, they'll have more than enough data to make dynamic walk generation possible
