Thank you to the couple of people who replied to my comment / question.
I live in the UK and yes all of my letters had the royal mail orange stickers clearly in top left hand corner, so could not have been missed.
I also know a bit about couriers delivering things. Some you have as a before time. (Ie before 9am or 11 am etc being premium paid for items ) but then you have the rest of your route to do as well. It becomes very difficult when items are to places as such as high streets as you have time restrictions when you can access the roads for delivering etc.
Every time someone has not given special instructions if they are not able to accept the delivery (ie leave behind gate, with neighbours, put through window etc ) they want to get it off their van asap.
No special instructions on parcel, none on door, not answering bell or knocking, no neighbours to take it in etc. Then have to write out non delivery note, will return tomorrow or call to rearrange.
It is only a minimal amount paid for redelivery if it is a franchise driver, and how many times should they try before returning to sender.
Sorry I've gone off on a tangent.
What I was trying to get at is that if I didn't answer, then I should have the card put through saying try again tomorrow, then say it will be held at office for an amount of time before it's returned to sender. That way the sender knows if it has got to the recipient or they need to try another way or try again.
