It would be better if the Technology was used to "Help" the Postie SP. Perhaps by instead of holding them back for 5 days (which only helps the MC or further back down the pipeline) try feeding them into the mech over 5 days .... that would make more sense.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Mar 2022, 12:18
In areas where the DTS system is used, most of them will get held back for the maximum of 5 days, then you'll get hit with them all in one go

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
In all areas the mail gets fed in over 5 days but in the areas where DTS is being done, if there's no other mail for an address a DSA item gets sorted to a holding stacker and then is refed into the machine the next day. On the next day, again if there's no other mail for an address the DSA items get sorted to the holding stacker. After five days the DSA items will get sorted to the relevant batch, even if there's still no other mail for that address.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 08:28It would be better if the Technology was used to "Help" the Postie SP. The downside of that is depending on machine capacity some will end up going walk sort or even as manual.
Not every MC will be doing DTS as it requires 2 spare stackers on any CSS batch. Some MCs will be in a situation where just about all batches need 19 stackers (stacker 20 is always the overflow/reject stacker). In that situation, they might not have enough spare stackers on their iLSMs/IMPs for the extra batches that would be required

I'm trying to understand how the 'process' knows how long a DSA item has been held for - if a held item for 12 Brookside has beenSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 09:18In all areas the mail gets fed in over 5 days but in the areas where DTS is being done, if there's no other mail for an address a DSA item gets sorted to a holding stacker and then is refed into the machine the next day. held in a holding stacker for 2 days and then a DSA item for 14 Brookside arrives are they both placed in the same holding stacker?
If so how does the sorting system 'know' how long each item has been held for so it can be sent out
for delivery - is that info for each DSA item stored in the system memory or is there a physical marker
in the stacker to indicate days of arrival? (Sorry if these questions are stupid but never been inside a mail centre!).
Also, are all held DSA items cleared by the end of a working week regardless of how long they've been held
or can a DSA item that arrives at an MC on Thursday be held over until the max 5 days next week?

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
The mail in the holding stacker gets boxed and sent back to the iLSMs/IMPs and run through again the next day. I don't know what happens with the stuff at the weekends. I'm guessing that the system records which DPs have got no other mail and how many days that's been the case for
We never implemented it as RM would need to lengthen our iLSMs to give the space on the iLSMs for the extra batch selections. Just about all our batches require all 19 stackers free so we'd probably have to split every batch in half so we'd probably have 150-160 batches.
The other reason why we don't do it is because of the time that we start to run our sequencing. Once all the outward has gone through some program is meant to go through and identify which DSA items are for DPs with other mail, and that is due to finish running at about 00:30. If we were to wait until then we'd fail every night as we start to run the sequencing at around 19:30-20:00

Another day at the circus.
40% of staff off sick.
Mothers day cards everywhere.
Boxes of flowers everywhere that all need photos of delivery.
3 days of mail.
Woo hoo

There are some seriously useless managers in our sector.
Today we found out that the most useless of them, the king of the numpties, is to be our new COM.
Lord help us.

Absolute dream today. Hardly anything on at all. Go home early, enjoy the sun. Try not to think about how hammered we will get tomorrow

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
So since the survey is over our managers are back to being knobs. Trying to enforce lapsing and back to days off on bank holiday. I knew it having 2 Saturdays off in a row was linked
I am thoroughly looking forward to the results of the survey. I know some talk positively of the managers, but on the whole they always get roasted

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Today was very light on letters.
Very light on parcels.
We have no D2D this week.
Finished about 90 minutes early.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Lightest day I've seen in years, since a freak day close to xmas about 6 years ago when there were about 50 letters and 2 packets per duty.
