Hi
Hope someone can help. The resign in our office has left me with very little choice to stay on part time hours. (one duty or change my attendance pattern) However I can have the pick of Full time duties due to high seniority.
My question is, would there be a significant advantage(as far as pension payouts)to going full time between now and when I plan to retire, some time in the next 4 years. Or if was to go full time and retire within a year.(this may be my preferable option as I really could not do another 4 years full time.)
Service is currently 26 years, PT for the last 10 or so years.
Thanks

Re: Part time to full timejust before retirment.
Worth having a chat with both the DOM and the union rep about the possibility of swapping duties with a part timer?

The pension you've already accrued wouldn't reduce as a result of changing from full time to part time, and as far as I'm aware it wouldn't increase either if you're doing the opposite.Flashman_ wrote: ↑09 Feb 2022, 10:02Hi

But you would obviously build up more benefits going forward, which at the moment I assume with 26 years service that would would be via the DBCBS.
A full timer will also accrue more CDC pension, compared to part time, when that scheme starts.
In my opinion the advantage of 1 year being full time would be minimal, but the longer you stay at those hours, the more advantageous it's likely to be.
Going full time also gives you more money in your pocket to potentially save extra towards your retirement!
