FIRST class neighbours found themselves postman and women after a pile of parcels appeared stacked on a driveway.
Shelly Ocsinberg was left wondering why parcels had been left on her drive after arriving at her house in Breightmet on especially as she had not ordered anything.
On closer inspection she realised they belonged to others.
Ian Wilson was one of the customers whose parcel had been delivered to Shelly’s house.
When collecting his own parcel from Shelly’s, he decided to help deliver the packages to other residents, all of whom were nearby.
One of the parcels Ian delivered was also marked as a signed for package.
He said: “It was no problem to me to drop the other parcels off, and do someone else a favour.
“The people who received their parcels were very thankful that somebody had bothered to bring their parcels to them.
“Shelly helped solve a massive problem really.”
Shelly managed to contact Ian through the information listed on the parcel.
Whilst Ian delivered the other parcels, Shelly was able to deliver a parcel to another “grateful resident”.
She said: “Any pedestrian could have picked them up off my drive, and it could have gone seriously wrong.
“Ian was a very nice man to help me sort out the parcels, because I can’t drive in the dark.
“If I was waiting for a parcel, I would not like it to get lost in a delivery system by it being returned to the nearest post office.”
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Every single item of mail is important to us.
“Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver mail to over 31 million addresses across the UK, six days a week, in all weathers.
“The vast majority of items are securely delivered to customers, but if we believe a customer is not at home, we will attempt to deliver the item to a neighbour and leave a card.
“If we can’t deliver to them, we’ll leave a card and take the item back to the Customer Service Point where customers can either collect it or arrange a redelivery.
“All of our employees are regularly reminded of the high standards expected of them.”
