You’ve also considered leave entitlement, sick pay, pension, job security etc. etc ?

New starters get put on a 6 month contract. Mine says clearly that I will definitely be let go next month as they won't need me. I know that isn't the truth, but it's hardly "job security".
Oh, and I'm not eligible for sick pay for 2 years, and any leave I want is already gone due to "seniority"; IE all the old people on decent contracts who are close to retirement can not only be off sick 3-6 months of the year, they can also take any school holidays off for a nice summer break leaving new starters with random days off here and there

Most people will be on 20-30 hour contracts where you will be expected to work anytime between 7am to 11pm 7 days a week and not the same shift times 2 weeks in a row. Also bear it is a far more strenuous job than we have at RM.

Fair to say life at RM is MUCH prefereable to that.

Keep in mind that deliveries have got better long-term job security than MCs as for us in MCs there's no guarantee that RM wont automate all our jobs out of existance

I totally agree mate, whilst i dont have first hand experience i know someone who does and the abuse from customers due to missing their timeslot and missing/damaged/substituted items as well as the shift issues, make it a totally s**t job.

Amazon have been mentioned on here a few times, my friend who is currently doing asda deliveries had to pay £1840 for "vehicle damage" when he was at amazon as amazingly a load of damage was found once he resigned....

Dont get me wrong RM is not the best job in the world, but by christ you can be a lot worse off.

Supermarket drivers don't have it physically hard by any means. I had an interview with Tesco, i ended up as a bit over qualified in one sense as i guessed their workloads near spot on and said it would be easy. 4x drops an hour at 100kg per drop was over estimating it, and that's easy.

Said interviewer was overweight and glad that they didn't deliver in my area anymore due to the hills. But in all fairness to her she did say that when someone needs a weekend day off they do get it.

Currently on 24 hours, never work under 35, more often over 40. Shift times change at a whim including delivery route and depo. Walking 15 miles a day with heavy loads.

Physically and mentally it doesn't compare. I've not seen many quiet days in my time, it is a none stop race to finish before 5. Or 8 if you're on LAT's. I'm not saying i'd rather work for a supermarket but this is just relentless, exhausting and the end doesn't look pretty.
