Expansion of Swindon Mail centre
I gather that Swindon is to be extended with a view and more kit being introduced LSM's, Imp's 2 packet conveyors etc for 2009. Can anyone confirm this? I also understand that Bristol will be losing a substantial amount of work to them in aorund 18 months time.
Curtains for Bristol Mail Centre? A lot of us here, hope so.

Re: Expansion of Swindon Mail centre
RM certainly don't like Bristol going by dismissals and suspensions , plan is probably to run it down , mothball it , or even sub-lease the vacant space out , wouldn't put it past them . Playing MC's & DC's etc up against each other appear to be divide and conquer tactics .zaphod wrote:I gather that Swindon is to be extended with a view and more kit being introduced LSM's, Imp's 2 packet conveyors etc for 2009. RM have always played the chinese whispers and vicious rumours tactics , a spanish practice to supposedly make people work better .[/b]

Bristol won't lose any mail to Swindon. They will probably take some mail off Swindon to help them cope with the extra from Reading and Oxfordevilc wrote:Swindon mc is being expanded to accomodate the mail from oxford and reading, as for bristol who knows.zaphod wrote:I gather that Swindon is to be extended with a view and more kit being introduced LSM's, Imp's 2 packet conveyors etc for 2009. I had confirmation this afternoon that all work relating to Swindon - expansion and installing new kit has a completion date of November 2009. Fellow H&S Rep on night confirms that work is being transferred to Swindon from Bristol in 18 months time.

Just another indication that Mail Centres are being centralised with excess centres being sold off to land grabbers and Jumbo mail centres privatised individually to DHL, TNT, City Link, ANC, Fedex, APC, Parceline, and uncle Tom Cobley and all - whilst delivery offices become the home of the part time workers with a cadre of full time preppers.

I'll like to know whats going on,did'nt know about MK's 2nd class, but i think Watford are due to get some work from Hemel, not sure what, but some of the processing staff(over 55's)have had prefence letters asking if they want VR,this is to make room for any staff who want to follow the work to Watford, there was a gathering of Hemel Managers at Watford mail center one day this week. The talk of a new giant mail center at Luton(old vauxall site)reared its ugly head again this week, the Planners from Watford are said to be busy with other office planners.Bromhamhatter wrote:Looks like its curtains for Milton Keynes MLC,we are about to lose our 2nd class to Watford.Just the begining of the end.
Anything at Luton is at least 2-3 years away i would guess unless RM have been secretly installing machinery.
Anyone throw any light on to whats going on

Why does RM always ask the over 55 year olds for VR, there are load of posties that what to leave the business regardless of age. I'm very sure if RM went around asking who whats to leave the business they will get between 28,000- 40,000 volunteers. If is obvious that those who voted against the pay and modernisation agreement mostly likely what to leave, therefore, RM should give them the choice and those who voted for the agreement want to stay and accept RM changes. This is the only RM can move forward by letting posties that what redundancies go. I'm very surprised that AL and AC have not realised this or they have and they just do not want to pay posties off.

Apologies - I didn't expect names to be mentioned on a public forum. Ijust wondered if it was the chap I last knew to be there. I'll look-up at t'office. TBH, if it was the person I thought it was, he was a good guy, who I had experience of at my previous office, and was rumoured at one stage to be coming to Bristol. If he changed his mind, it was a good call.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Sorry Zaphod and Bromhamhatter - should have said cant name names on here best PM it to him.
Same here. EVR's were said to be on the agenda next month, but our WAM said he had no knowledge, on Friday. There again, in that forum, there were a lot of things I had to educate him, and my colleagues about, especially with respect to Swindon, up the road from us. A lot of our managers now find themselves in postitions at Swindon these days. I wonder whyk66yla wrote:Mention VR at my office and you would get trampled in the rush to sign up
I wouldn't expect managers to tells us about imminent or otherwise EVR's, closure plans or buy down, anyway, even if they did know. It would hardly motivate an already unmotivated workforce.
