Residents of Syke have raised hundreds of pounds to give to a local shopkeeper after his store was damaged and robbed in November.
The local post office on Gale Street had its windows and shutters broken, and was subject to a couple of robberies last month, says Syke resident Leanne Connolly.
After hearing about the incidents, Leanne set about to raise some money for Abdul Mohammed, who runs the post office, with the community raising over £300.
Leanne said: “The Gale Street Post Office was robbed a couple of times and had its windows smashed.
“Abdul has had an awful time of it recently so I wanted to do something for him as a bit of a gift. He’s such a lovely man who always goes above and beyond. The things he’s been through recently just aren’t right.”
Leanne presented Abdul with the funds, balloons and a card on Friday 3 December.
Posting online, Abdul said: “I want to express my sincere gratitude for your donation; thank you for your generous gift.
“We are thrilled to have your support. Through your donation, we have been able to accomplish the losses and continue working towards Post Office service.
“You truly make a difference for us, and we are extremely grateful. Thank you, Leanne, for organising this fundraising.”
