I sometimes have that problem too, maybe I should get my nails trimmed
My question would be why not carry out the work you are supposed to do? If there is a question of delivery I would presume you would deny all knowledge of it - then again an attitude I'm not suprised about considerig the calibre of staff these days.

Sometimes there is a number, but most of the time there isn't (well, not the right amount of numbers and letters according to PHG), If there is a 'correct' code we get a signature, but otherwise we deliver it unsigned. The trouble with that is that there is still a big red sticker stating that RM want a signature but we've posted it through unsigned. The customer is obviously thinking we've not bothered, I'm not suggesting that this is what has happened in this case, but I've had customers ask me if they should have signed for an item. Surely whoever is putting these RM signature required labels on should check if the system is going to recognise the code and if not, DO NOT STICK THE BL***Y LABEL ON! Very simple way of checking, the last 2 parts of the code will be letters denoting the country of origin eg HK, CN etc much like our recorded/specials GB :evil/mad
When I first started I think I missed signatures for a couple from Australia, the 13 digit reference number being hidden amongst the customes declaration on the back of the package. Also, now we get Special Delivery packets, Amazon I think, just printed black on white without the distinctive silver and dark blue Special Delivery stickers - there must be quite a few of those delivered by accident without signature.

Hi mate, i do not see the point of signature required from a 4 digit or other crazy number that our system cannot scan so therefor it is not really a recorded despite what a foreign postal operator wants us to do,

Simple.

Get rid of recorded deliveries and only have special deliveries.

What is the point of two different services that apparently do the same thing.

I had an item from ebay and it was to be signed for but all I have on the evevlope is one sticker with the reference number and by the side of it says SIGNED FOR now I thought I would have signed for it at the door bearing in mind it the cover postie and not our usual one! Help?
Hi Lovin Posties until recently all recorded deliveries stood out like a soar thumb ie they had bright orange stickers ... now in someone's infinite wisdom (aye right) some are now coming with white labels and are very difficult to spot (mainly packets) i left a notice for a packet during the christmas period only to find out later it was a rcorded packet .... someone forgot to point out to the grunts (postmen) that Royal mail had made changes to the recorded delivery service

but where the f*ck is my ebay item i won on the 25th :so there

If there is a RM signature required sticker get a signature for it, we've been told to treat them as if they were a RD. When they go back to Callers we have to treat them as if they were a Special as we keep foreign items for 4 weeks, bit confusing really as most the 739's are marked recorded for them so the customer thinks they've been returned after 7 days and don't bother to come in and collect them.
We also have been told in our office that they should be treated as if posted in the UK and get a signature for them

Whats the story with the ID RECORDED (printed on the large orange label)-is a signature required for these items or is this a customs thing-sometimes there are a couple of numbers on them??? Depending on who I speak to its 50/50 whether a signature is needed?

ID RECORDED - I have only seen that on Junk Mail - ie you have one 1,000,000 if you reply by last Wednesday type ones. So No not signature required.

There are too many things coming in these days to try and work out which ones need signatures and which ones don't, there was a time last year whenever AOL were sending out routers which needed and signature then they started sending them out in the same packaging but not requiring a signature, then you have the ones without the correct numbers the ones requiring you post the return card back or the ones that don't require a signature at all (Irish No Signature Required). There should be only one and they should all come through the locker (with everything booked out then back in again).

Quite right. We now have a multitude of signed for services. I don't know what other peoples lockers are like but ours has two Tracked item wireless guns and two of the old. old guns for Specials - which are always failing. It would be beneficial if they could have aligned the system whereby only one gun was required. It would also be an advantage whereby you could confirm dun receipt and allocate on different guns.

Has anyone heard of hand held capture devices for deliveries? Rumour has it there is a project on the loose.

Was mentioned on here during the "small difficulty" we had last year but nothing official as far as I know.

Yes I remember that but this seems to be a new initiative which will presumably do recorded, specials, tracked and DNS - but would have to be downloaded I would imagine and so would have to be taken back on a daily basis. I wonder if they will have GPS built in?

Yes there was an article on page 3 of the Winter 2007 addition of voice entitled "Big brother implications of technology application". The union are seeking reassurances that it won't be used to monitor the whereabouts of employees etc, etc.
