They will though won't they. Imagine the amount of staff shortages after new yrs eve celebrations or worse, the amount of people driving the next day over the limit!

Joking aside, I'm pretty sure I've read no collection or delivery on 1st Jan with 3rd (a bank holiday) to be confirmed?

Offcom has stated they support granting the exception for USO deliveries and collections and a decision is due to be announced on the 13th December.
RMCtv : New Year Arrangements : Still awaiting a final decision from Ofcom about whether 1 January is a service day or not. Due 13 Dec

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Absolutely s*** day today (and the past few days).
Impossible amount of work. Too many packets and big parcels and not enough time to deliver the Mail.
So busy trying to get everything done that I made a couple of mistakes and now have to be held to account for that.
It got to the point the last couple of days where my work rate has slowed down quite a bit because I have totally lost motivation to work quickly due to knowing that I will be going over my time and still taking Mail back.
The managers don’t understand that the workload is impossible and keep complaining about the Mail brought back when we have claimed overtime. When it gets to the last hour of the day we just have to prioritise tracked items and big parcels.
I’ve had enough.

I did just that today. Worked at a reasonable rate and took back whatever we couldn’t manage. No doubt I will be in the s*** on Monday when the managers see how much post I bought back and piled onto the frame so it was highly visible.

Was working today but had been asked by DOM last night to take out a duty instead of packets (assuming sufficient casuals turned to deal with the packets). The walk in question had not cleared in a couple of weeks and I was confronted by trays and trays of tied-up mail pus some loops left in the fitting. Plenty of packets too but no tracked (obviously because they’re told to prioritise traced at the expense of mail). This got me the thinking again about the USO. Surely in prioritising higher margin traffic RM is guilty of repeatedly breaking the spirit if not the letter of the “one price” component of the USO?

You should be getting a LTB (Letter To Branch) next week concerning this. A joint statement from RMG & CWU stating that we should be opertaing as usual with regards to the USO. We shouldn't be treating Tracked as a priority at the expense of other products. :no no

I expect it's just a statement for the benefit of the Press and Ombudsmen and RM will just go on ignoring it's commitments to the customer. I think that's what they forget. They're meant to be operating for the benefit of the Customers not just the Shareholders. :hmmmm

So far as it goes I see that as good news. At least it will provide us with a talking point when confronting the usual mantra of “Just make sure you clear the tracked. It sounds as if the letter will provide cover for RMG and shift the blame to DOMs. I have to say some OPGs are using the instructions on tracked as cover for bringing back excessive amounts of mail. I’m not saying people should do pressure overtime if they don’t want. Everyone has the right to work to time if that’s their choice but we have a few in our office who finish early while still leaving mail in the fitting and bringing mail back putting unnecessary pressure on the reserves who usually get tasked with clearing it up. They seem to believe ( and get away with) “I cleared the tracked so job done”.

No help today on large parcels . Three sets of door to door leaflets on both duties I double prepped . Massive hire van shortage was managers excuse . More fresh sick . Left two full walks to clear large parcels and tracked and only took mail where me and partner were going. Over 20 years service in Royal Mail, Pressure hasn’t properly started and I have never witnessed such a shambles . I start on my time and finish on my time . Barely anyone accepting overtime anymore as completely fed up . Massive failings yet again .

Last year we had agency staff drafted in to help clear large parcels and tracked. We also had walk holders clear parcels and lapsed duties on overtime . Thus making it easier to clear park and loop duties . The managers are clearly winging it this year and as a result the walk holders are almost at breaking point . 13 staff in office off sick and 3 new starters brought in to help have left to go elsewhere . Each day a new nightmare . :arrrghhh

None , no one is on holiday in December
