Mum divides opinion after claiming 7am is too early for post to be delivered

A mum has caused a stir online after she complained about her postman delivering a parcel at 7am – as some people agreed, while others said she was being ‘entitled’

Almost all of us will have had a parcel delivered at a time that’s inconvenient for us, but we usually understand that our postal workers are just doing their jobs – and it’s not their fault if we aren’t in, or if we have to rush to the door in our pyjamas.

But one mum has split opinion online after she said it was “ridiculous” for her local postman to knock on her door at 7am because no one in her house was awake at the time.

The mum took to Mumsnet to explain the situation, as she said he had to jump out of bed and run downstairs to get to the door before the postman left – and even insisted she’d rather just collect her parcels than have them delivered “too early”.

She insisted she'd rather collect her parcels than have them delivered too early

She wrote: “I was in bed sound asleep, as was everyone else in the house. The postman rang the bell at 7am and woke everyone up. My child started wailing. I had no clothes on and had to answer the door in just a dressing gown.

“I complained and postman said they start at 7am because of Christmas! Now I’m going to be exhausted all day and daren’t order any more parcels in case they turn up at a stupid time.”

The mum then asked if it was unreasonable of her to think the 7am delivery time is “antisocial and ridiculous”.

And her question split the Mumsnet community, as people couldn’t decide whether she was right to be annoyed at the early delivery.

Many who disagreed with her suggested she should be awake by 7am anyway, with one person writing: “You're just being lazy, sorry. 7am is a reasonable time.”

As another agreed, adding: “Oh, get over yourself. If you don’t want a delivery, then arrange to collect the parcel. They have a job to do.”

While a third said: “You ordered a parcel, they delivered it. Be thankful there’s enough postmen working so you got your delivery.”

But others defended the mum, stating that not everyone has the same schedule and people should assume she is “lazy” or “unemployed” just because she doesn’t get up before 7am.

Someone said: “I'm with you, I have two children under three who sleep until 8:30am ... wake up the babies, get the wrath of hell.

“Other people's lifestyles and them being up at 7am means sweet f**k all.”

And another added: “There are people replying here that think anyone asleep or otherwise engaged before 8am are 'job shy' lazy no-gooders!

Wonder if it was a 9am SD from the previous day. Some of the DOs locally won't have had their final run arrive by 7am

No.

It was probably a first wave delivery, they'll go out again with another load on the 2nd Wave.

9ams are usually done by a specific duty to ensure they are done.

We should set up parcelboxes like other competitors do so they can be collected in their own time.

Follow up story to be

Postman wakes house on purpose because he thinks they order too much.

Express or Daily Mail would be my guess. :left:

They'll soon complain about having to miss Jeremy Kyle in order to make the trip to the sorting office bringing their benefit card as proof of ID.

Some of you people are so judgemental it is embarrassing.
