Overtime holiday pay help
Hi there,
I joined Royal mail at the start of June on a part time basis doing 30 hours a week. I've done quite a bit of overtime since I joined and don't quite understand how the holiday overtime payments work. On the people app the "holiday pay" section shows no data. I've heard the payments are every 6 months and I've been 2ith royal mail just over 6 months now.
Any help would be appreciated

afraid you won't qualify for the 1st payment, the qualifying period is apr-sept
if you've taken a week or 2 off within the last 3 months you could go down the tribunal path

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
You basically need to do 8 hours a month, for every month. So, the fact that you started in June guaranteed you'll not qualify for the April-October period just gobe. For the current April-October period (which we are now in ), you'll need to do 8 hours a month. The precise dates of each of the six "months" within each 6 month period haven't been released ATMChar1289 wrote: ↑07 Nov 2021, 21:41Hi there,

Ahh I see, so does that mean I won't get a lump sum for any of the overtime I've worked the last 6 months ? Or will I recieve a backpay when the next assessment period has finished? I definitely work over 8 hours overtime a month. Sorry to ask so many questions but the managers don't know anything about it here!
Cheers

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
New starters won’t qualify for any holiday pay based on overtime hours until they have completed a whole 6 month cycle of overtime (and not your first six months of employment, it has to be the particular 6 months set by RM).Char1289 wrote: ↑08 Nov 2021, 07:02Ahh I see, so does that mean I won't get a lump sum for any of the overtime I've worked the last 6 months ? Starting in June 21 means you can’t possibly meet the requirement to work 8 hours in every month from April to September 21 (coz you weren’t employed in April & May]. So no back pay for any holiday taken between your start date and the end of September.
If you work at least 8 hours overtime a month between October the end of March, you will get some back pay in around April next year (for leave taken from last month).
Basically all new starters will lose out unless they make a Tribunal Claim.

Okay, thanks for your help. What is a tribunal claim? Is it a hassle to do?

A claim to the Employment Tribunal to try and get what you are entitled to. It’s relatively easy and not as intimidating as some people think:

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
Reading this thread has me concerned now.
I started with RM through an agency in Feb, and was made permanent in May on a 25 hr contract. I have consistently worked an average of 51 hours a week, including 2 weeks holiday taken in the summer. So I assumed I would be eligible for back pay on the 26th Nov.
There's no data showing in the app - am I going to get stitched up?? I think I'm owed £600, and I'm kinda counting on it for Christmas!!
Any advise gratefully received.

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
Just querying - did you become a 'Royal Mail' employee straightaway in Feb ie paid directly by RM or were you paid by the agency?BlueStar78 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 20:12

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
not certain if you qualify if still agency in april, you must have done 8hrs overtime in that month, when do your wages slips start from looking on the app?BlueStar78 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 20:12Reading this thread has me concerned now.

if nothing in april then a long winded claim could be your only way and i think it must be submitted within 3 months of your holidays, so if they were in jun or july or early aug it maybe too late, someone else will post the exact timescale i'm sure,
if RM can get away with paying something, they will

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
The cut off to put in an Employment Tribunal claim will now be 3 months from not being paid (rather than the holiday dates) as no one knows what/if they will get paid until the six monthly payout. Means RM could face a barrage of claims every 6 months if people continue to miss out and can be bothered to claim.world class male wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 05:47not certain if you qualify if still agency in april, you must have done 8hrs overtime in that month, when do your wages slips start from looking on the app?BlueStar78 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 20:12Reading this thread has me concerned now.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, I was agency through April, not paid direct by RM, so no payslips...

Re: Overtime holiday pay help
Can anyone confirm that we are getting another payment on the 26th Nov? For the April-September 2021 period.
