Parcel from USA to UK stuck in customs has now been sent to New Zealand!

Hi, I posted a thread on here over a month ago about a parcel from the USA that was stuck in UK customs. There has been no update until today:

"Arrival at Transit Office From Exchange. Your item arrived at the processing facility in NEW ZEALAND on November 8, 2021 at 11:06 am."

Tracking no. is CJ469112081US

Can anybody explain what is going on? Why has it now been sent to New Zealand? Am I ever going to receive my parcel?

Oh my word! This is a terrible one to see. I've just looked at the tracking information, USPS Priority and 8 days to the UK which isn't bad; but sadly it was passed over to ParcelForce not Royal Mail. I have no idea why they have sent it on to New Zealand, but I have recieved parcels that have had new address labels stuck onto them - it's beyond me how this happens.

USPS appear to have done everything right - the problem here is yet again Parcelforce. I'd suggest emailing in a complaint but don't hope for much help, I think they have a playbook of standard replies. You might be able to ask USPS to start a Missing Mail Search, this might help get it to the UK recipient.

Looking at the tracking I don't think that Parcelforce ever received it. I'm not sure but I believe that Parcelforce scan all items to customs, the scan them again once they've been released by customs

3 possible reasons for this happening.

1. The tracking code has been used twice. (possible but unlikely)
2. Human error. Most likely to be honest.
3. The packaging has been damaged in some way and addresses have been transferred - Possible but unlikely.

I think you should get it eventually, but have you checked to see if your address is similar to one in New Zealand, some town names are repeated between the 2.

That's an interesting thought @TrueBlueTerrior. There will be a lot of repeated names between the UK and New Zealand, Canterbury comes to mind as the most obvious.

Thought I'd post an update for the benefit of anyone with a similar problem who may be reading this in the future. My parcel arrived this morning after 64 days in transit!

Thanks for the update.

That's quite a remarkable journey. It appears it cleared Customs in Langley, was passed on to Royal Mail and then sent to New Zealand. Came back into the UK via the International Hub in Coventry (Parcel Force), cleared customs and was delivered within 2 days.

Was there anything wrong with the address or anything on the parcel to suggest why it was sent to NZ?
