Network revision
Hi, does any one have any idea how the re pick will work, in this network revision? With the amount of vacancies there are, will they be filled first and then the pick will start? If not and say there are 20 jobs available, some duty/reserve. How will they be picked by the 20 new starters. I hope someone can make sense of what I am trying to say, haha. Thanks.

Re: Network revision
Rule of thumb after ring fenced and special duties it mostly done on seniority.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Network revision
MTSF should come in to play here. While I'm no expert on the subject I believe the pick is based on shift allowances, keeping you, as near as possible, within your current band.
You can switch shifts by giving your shift allowance up and going to the bottom of the pile. Obviously this is a risky play as you could end up with the worst duty in the office.
As I say, I only have limited knowledge of this, so ask your rep what the options are.

Re: Network revision
Is this a national revision that could have an affect on arrival patterns in MCs?

Re: Network revision
I am also seeking any information on how the revision works.
Apparently because of a drop in volume in work (usually happens this time of year) it has been decided that staff on our shift need to be reduced.
The options given incorporate Sunday eg Sunday to Thursday, 35 hours (As opposed to current days, Tues to Sat 38 hours). It was indicated that some (based on seniority) who opt for the change will not then be required to be cover/reserve for the other shifts. If you opt to remain on your current hours (Like me 20 hours) you "may" be required to be a cover/reserve.
Part of the agreement states;
Royal Mail and the CWU have agreed that a review of resourcing alignment will therefore be required in Mail Centres and/or RDCs and WBC’s. The reviews (using an agreed process and standard toolkit) will facilitate the introduction of the growth initiatives relating to the deployment of new LAT products and ensure that the 1st hour reduction in the full time working week can be deployed in the most effective manner in October 2018**.
Both parties recognise the impact of change on individuals and reaffirm our joint commitment to minimise employee disruption as much as possible. In all change, due consideration will be given to current attendance patterns and earnings packages and movement between shifts will be avoided. To assist this aim, realignment of workload between shifts may be considered where it supports effective alignment to workload and avoids stranded costs.
"movement between shifts will be avoided" and "minimise employee disruption" appear not to be paramount due to the possible effect on several colleagues to date.
I have edited some information;

How will we do this ? Key Themes from Annex A
Agreed baseline period for model week
Establish the hours required using baselined throughputs
Align duties based on minimum disruption
Alignment of workload that avoids stranded costs
Both parties agree that Annex A – from our 2018** agreement is still fit for purpose and should be used as the guidance for structural realignment.
Appendix’s 1 & 2 at the end this document detail each step within agreed document

APPENDIX 2
A Guide for Regional Distribution Centre and Walk Bundling Centre Resourcing Realignment
Annex A
A GUIDE FOR MAIL CENTRE RESOURCING REALIGNMENT
In line with the National Joint Statement on Resource Realignment, when conducting joint realignment activity in Mail Centres, using Nationally agreed tools, both parties must comply with the following guidelines:
1. Agree joint communication to employees regarding the realignment activity and joint aims and objectives.
2. Agree baseline period (Model Week) i.e. an average week to resource (process attached).
3. Agree levels of additional earning opportunities i.e. the level of Scheduled Attendance that meets employee aspirations and achieves workplan clearance.
4. Agree leave reserve ratios. These may be varied by agreement where this supports a reduction in the use of external resource.
5. Verify all work area cut-off and dispatch times.
6. Using the baseline period, jointly project traffic to be resourced in each work area on all shifts across the full week. If needed, verify traffic with shift managers and CWU representatives as, depending on the agreed baseline period, there may have been changes in the traffic profile since then.
7. Establish total hours required in all work areas of all shifts; by using baseline traffic and actual throughputs. You may seek to improve actual throughputs via agreed process changes; any such change will have to be tested before using the improved throughputs. Ensure all hours are captured including portering etc.

Re: Network revision
Could do with some input / help if possible. I’ve worked for RM for 32 years with most of them being on earlies. 6 years ago my Mail centre was looking for savings and as my wife was and still is ill we decided a buy down was a good option. My hours were amended and I now work from 0500-0900 loading trailers and sometimes driving.
Under this realignment they have decided that no part timers are required in the warehouse and are proposing my hours of attendance are changed to 16.30 - 20.30. Are they allowed to make such a massive change to my attendance hours.
Thanks in advance

Re: Network revision
If its going to affect ur care of your wife maybe ask for flexible working They have to consider but they don't have to grant it. I would dangle a carrot to persuade them to grant ur request

Re: Network revision
New network was running so well earlier this week that drivers leaving NDC empty were told to re-enter site and collect work. So much for the “move to time” policy. Would take thick end of an hour to go back in, wait for bay to be free as next service would’ve taken space you’d just vacated, load and leave again. Then there’s the end of shift debrief to look forward to when you get back, explaining why late leaving.

Re: Network revision
We get our work later as a result of the revision. Once it starts to pick up a bit we'll probably be failing everyday. There'll basically be two options to prevent that:
1) They get our work to us earlier (will probably never happen)
2) They make the final dispatch times to DOs later and all MC night shift and DO start and finish times get made later (most likely possibility)

Re: Network revision
Isn'tgoing well at our place on weekends - weekdays going ok.
Weekends are a complete shambles - bulking out for YDC every week. Now sending mail to NDC / anybody who will take it.
They will have to sort this asap.
Mail volume dropped last two weekends prior to that we were bulking out by 150 ish yorks across 3 distribution centres :(

Re: Network revision
I hear that NDC are regularly 40 - 50 drivers short at the weekends. Bet they love it when your extra work turns up !
