Campaign to save Haworth Post Office is stepped-up

HUNDREDS of postcards have been sent to the boss of Post Office Ltd as campaigners step-up their fight to save a village branch.

Plans to close the post office in Main Street, Haworth, and relocate services to the village’s new Co-op store have sparked anger and a flood of protests.

In their latest move, opponents have urged the public to forward a protest postcard to Post Office Ltd chief executive officer Nick Read.

Campaign organisers had pre-addressed cards printed and are crowdfunding to cover the cost of those and postage.

“The response to this phase of the campaign has been quite incredible – in three days alone more than 700 postcards were dispatched and we had to order 1,000 more to keep-up with demand,” said Lydia MacKinnon, for the campaigners.

“Some local shops have also been generously donating postcards of Haworth and funding postage.

“Time is running out and now that the public consultation period has closed, this seemed like one simple thing we could do to get Nick Read’s attention. We really hope that he and the company will take notice of the strength of public opinion.”

A Post Office Ltd spokesperson said: “Consultation over the proposed relocation of Haworth Post Office has closed and a large quantity of feedback was received. We are now thoroughly looking through all the responses and we will make a decision as soon as possible. Meantime, Haworth Post Office remains open in its current location.”
