Well despite the previous posters statement of what posties do, it is NOT alright. A signature on receipt is what the sender has paid for and that is exactly what they should get. There is now a system whereby signatory items should be scanned in and the signature available for scrutiny by both the sender and signatory.Lovin Posties wrote:yeah it was posted through the door but I just wanted to make sure it was all ok thats all!
Recorded Delivery is a much maligned system and IMHO should be discontinued - the item is untraceable UNTIL a signature/attempted delivery has been achieved so if the item is delivered without signature or misplaced there is no trace of it and the object of the exercise is lost. The only sure way of tracking an item is to use special delivery - more expensive but guaranteed.

Postwatch, the independent watchdog, last week wrote to Adam Crozier, chief executive of Royal Mail, to demand that the recorded mail service be improved or scrapped, because so many customers who had paid extra for recorded mail complained that postal workers were routinely failing to get a signature on delivery.

I contacted our great leader a few months ago :lfo about this and gave a suggestion.
Got a nice e-mail back with a 'hey we'll have a look see' bollox reply.
The thing is my suggestion may up the odd duty or 2 in MC's so i guess the cost was too much.
So let the (some) posties keep shabbing them and let the public (some) keep claiming for them even when they get them!!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

My problem with recorded is that they are not for anything of value (packets etc.) but for documents that you want to be sure they are delivered anything else should be standard packets or special delivery (this is why recorded are returned after 1 week and everything else has 3 weeks). Maybe the PO's should be trained to sell the correct product for the item.

Does anyone know the score on the International letters/packets that arrive in the DO with 'Royal Mail Signature Required' label stuck on it. Sometimes there is a number, but most of the time there isn't (well, not the right amount of numbers and letters according to PHG), If there is a 'correct' code we get a signature, but otherwise we deliver it unsigned. The trouble with that is that there is still a big red sticker stating that RM want a signature but we've posted it through unsigned. The customer is obviously thinking we've not bothered, I'm not suggesting that this is what has happened in this case, but I've had customers ask me if they should have signed for an item. Surely whoever is putting these RM signature required labels on should check if the system is going to recognise the code and if not, DO NOT STICK THE BL***Y LABEL ON! Very simple way of checking, the last 2 parts of the code will be letters denoting the country of origin eg HK, CN etc much like our recorded/specials GB

If there is a RM signature required sticker get a signature for it, we've been told to treat them as if they were a RD. When they go back to Callers we have to treat them as if they were a Special as we keep foreign items for 4 weeks, bit confusing really as most the 739's are marked recorded for them so the customer thinks they've been returned after 7 days and don't bother to come in and collect them.pinstripe wrote:Does anyone know the score on the International letters/packets that arrive in the DO with 'Royal Mail Signature Required' label stuck on it.
