Don't understand that. And full week is 37 hrs not 38. I am on 24 hour contract so my Delivery Supplement is £26.61 /37 x24 which comes to £17.26. Stays at that amount every week no matter how much overtime I do. Have to say it really galls me that I do a full weeks D2D every week and only get 2/3 of the supplement.
Delivery Supplement is for working in delivery, it's nothing to do with D2Ds. It's also payable up to 38 hours regardless whether you're part time or not, so you lose nothing compared to a full timer if you're doing overtime (it shows in SSPR on pay slip). Overtime rate drops after 48 hours only, and I was told by the CWU it's to dissuade you from doing too many hours, which I don't actually agree with, hence I personally always charge time and a half or 1 hour 30 minimum per loop to make sure I get a bit extra and never get less than basic pay. At the end of the day, if they don't want to pay that, they can always refuse, no skin off my back, but the offer is there.
OK. Well I am in the job 5 months and obviously have a lot to learn. I have no idea what all the overtime rates are in my payslip and I certainly didn't know thàt I am on a lower rate for overtime which is more than half my pay. Been working 6 day weeks since starting. Is there a glossary here that explains all or any of the acronyms in the pay advice.

The overtime rate is about 22%-25% less so if you work your day off say 7 hours you only get paid equivalent to 5:30 hrs after the basic 38/37 so make sure you don't go over that or you are working for free......god bless Casper the ghost!
Andyman - I was aware of the non-existent OT rate above 38hr, which is why I decline any
OT above 38 or to work day off, but I'd never thought of it from the perspective of RM getting some labour for free!

Not quite anywhere near 22-25% less, otherwise I wouldn't do it myself!

Here are the pay rates I have from my payslip:

Basic Pay: £12.05
Delivery Supplement (38 hours maximum): £0.70
SSPR (3 hours as I'm on 35 hour contract): £12.75 (this is basic pay plus delivery supplement)
38 - 48 hours: £12.16 (0.9% higher than basic pay)
Over 48 hours: £11.75 (2.5% lower than basic pay)
Sunday (mine is contracted for 7 hours): £17.88
Sunday Overtime (I book this for anything after 7 hours): £14.05
Bank Holiday Pay: £17.36

Yep awful rates but as most usually are ghosting their OT nobody complains.
Soon when we all start clocking in and out at our start and finish time and OT cannot be started until your regular hours are finished people will start realising this and will be doing less and less OT for such a poor rate.
hopefully then the RM and the CWU might review them if they want most offices to clear!
Not everyone is in an easy office and ghosts overtime. Some of us actually go over on our own duties!

Thank you for that. Now I can make a lot more sense of my payslip. My basic is £11.14 /hr as I am in first 6 months of employment. Delivery Supplement is £26.61 /37 so £0.72 /hr. And my SSPR is 24 to 37 hrs. Sundays I get £14.05 /hr as it is uncontracted overtime. Need to look at more payslips to discover my true 37 - 47 hr overtime rate.

Been struggling lately with workload and it just occurred to me how piss-poor the Royal Mail overtime rates are. Basic pay=£12.38 / hour. Overtime= £12.16/hour(less than basic)! Surely like most other firms, time and a third or even half should be paid. Was this another ‘deal of the century’ by the cwu all those years ago!!
Name them instead of generalizing. Bare in mind, RM hires what 140k frontline staff, so small Independent companies don't count.

It's very much a dying premium in hourly paid roles, Sunday premium will be similarly near obsolete soon enough too.

Its not just about “easy” offices. The fact is that some posties are just way quicker than others. There are 2 guys in my office who can double up (2 duties) and always be finished by 3:30 (getting paid 6 hours overtime until 9pm). But there are multiple people in the office who would finish at that time (3:30) maybe even later, just doing 1 of those duties!

I believe Houston we may have a problem.....
Central London hourly rate is £15:52 plus the delivery supplement of £0.72 so £16:24 an hour
Post revision up to 37 hours I know this is higher than most but it is expensive living down here etc etc so a London weighting is included.
After 37 hours the overtime rate for us is £12:16 then after 10 hours drops to £11:75 so it looks like after our basic hours we drop to the national overtime rate of the rest of the country which is why we see the 20-22% drop in our normal pay rate I didn't realise the whole country get the same rate I thought it was Royal Mails way of paying less on a previous arrangement.
I am no wondering if we are getting shafted on this getting a rate without any London weighting I thought the whole country was getting 20% less if they go over their basic.
I know I know we get paid more down here but have you bought a pint down here recently!
Can anyone down in London confirm this anomaly and why it happens or why we are getting shafted each week we go over with our normal £15:52 without D2D(post revision rate) reducing to £12:16 after 37 hours? Seems a bit fishy been going on for years this 20-23% drop in rate maybe they should backpay that as well!

I can categorically say doing two whole duties by 3.30 would be absolutely impossible in our office. No chance.

It's still s**t though, even though the 38-48 hrs OT is a massive 0.9% higher than basic - if you're in the
RMDCP none of this OT attracts a contribution from RM towards your pension (for the RMDCP) above 38hrs!
That's 10% (at tier 3 level) value of the OT that you're working that RM are not paying towards
your 'deferred wages' as people sometimes refer to a pension as - huge saving for them.

Not sure about OT above 38hrs for the RM DBCBS whether it's pensionable as I'm not in it.

I can categorically say that with these 2 guys yes it would. They literally run the whole thing.

And we are a 9 day fortnight office and so have longer delivery spans anyway. Also they certainly arent on easy jobs, ive done them.

I forgot about the London weighting, good point. In general, I agree the overtime rates are poor. If we had proper overtime rates, I imagine Royal Mail would make a lot more part timers up to full time and aim to reduce the amount of overtime people do as a whole, improving work-life balance and employing more people.

20 miles of delivery including travel time and breaks in 6 hrs max is impressive (stupid too). The part timers in your place must love these Jokers taking full time contracts off them.
