I write regarding the recent national briefing where Royalmail have effectively put the Parcelforce workforce on notice, or in other words given us 12 months to live.
I would like to ask the ceo of Royalmail, all their directors, and area managers, and to their same colleagues at Parcelforce, where were you last March when the country needed you ?
As the country locked down the people of this country, the government, the business, called upon key workers to keep this country going, we answered that call .
While most of the country stayed at home in the safety of their homes it was workers like myself that kept this country going, all with zero ppe and even less chance of social distancing in the workplace, putting our lives and health at risk and those of who lived with us.
Parcelforce thrived during this time, the workforce stepped up, we delivered more parcels than we ever had, my own route went from a steady 80-90 stops a day to over 120 stops , it was like xmas everyday. We were of course happy to do this knowing that we were playing our part in keeping the country moving. Fast forward over a year and after no more than a couple of quiet months, summer months and school summer holidays that are traditionally quiet , and suddenly we are in trouble, being told that our standard of service is not good enough.
We all know that REX and PRB is an utter shambles and is the cause of any drop in service levels, but just like the Horizon scandal at the post office the business just blindly carries on, nothing to see here, drop in profit? must be those shoddy workers again !
I work in a depot that has historical culture issues, since the introduction of PRB the workplace culture has gone downhill even more as drivers are given unrealistic targets to meet, there seems to be no common ground between drivers and managers when it comes to what a good days work is.
WE now have a whole generation of management who have never had to work to the conditions and practices that we have to.
The business has this absolute obsession with technology and competing with DPD while forgetting we are not DPD, our customers treat and see us as the local postal worker, we have a much more special relationship with our customers than other parcel companys, we are an institution.
So i say to the hierachy again, where were you last year, what were you doing ? We have not simply turned into a bad business overnight, you have a bloody good parcel company that is being treated like the poor relation. Remember it is Royalmail that is now delivering less letters and more parcels, when are you going to join us ?

Re: Parcelforce 'on notice'
Just thought of another possibilty. Don't know if GLS are still part of RM group but if they are, maybe PF will get merged into GLS

Re: Parcelforce 'on notice'
As a regular RM postie I've delivered glass shower doors, full size (boxed) BBQs, microwaves, TV's, mini fridges, and all sorts of other biggish stuff (not all the time, but they do come through). Most people in my office have.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑27 Aug 2021, 06:25but what they deliver is (normally) the much heavier and bulkier itemsP13 wrote: ↑27 Aug 2021, 00:06Royal Mail deliver more parcels than ParcelforcePaul Anderson wrote: ↑26 Aug 2021, 21:55We're the parcel company with the infrastructure, when are they merging with us ?
We even occasionally get odd parcels that physically will not fit in any of our vans.
I'm not sure what was arranged last year (when PF couldn't cope, not suggesting we were doing much better) but the PF parcels we got for a while were often smaller than many of our regular RM parcels (I presume PF carried on with the bigger things).

Re: Parcelforce 'on notice'
Royal Mail have just seemed to have lost the plot we used to be so great. But The Auto Rex with PF must be losing the company fortunes. Hopefully someone will come along with a sensible solution to please the drivers who are executing this mess ! Sometimes it is so embarrassing
