Swiss Post to increase mail prices for first time in 18 years

Sending letters will get a tad more expensive in Switzerland as of 2022, with Swiss Post increasing prices by up to ten cents per letter.
The last time prices were increased was in 2004, 18 years ago.

Prices for sending A-Mail letters will increase by ten cents per letter, while B-Mail will go up by five cents.

Prices for sending packages will remain the same, Swiss Post has promised.

Swiss Post say the increases are necessary due to the decline in the amount of post being sent in Switzerland, which is roughly half of that being sent when prices were last increased just under 20 years ago.

The price increases are being put in place despite Swiss Post remaining profitable.

In the first six months of 2021, Swiss Post raised operating income by 7.2 percent to 3,630 million francs, which is largely a result of increased parcel traffic.

There is an increase of 15.8 percent in the amount of parcels being sent in 2021 as compared to the first half of 2020.

Swiss post delivered 105 million parcels in 2021, compared with 90 million in the first half of 2020.

Swiss post has so far made a profit of 249 million francs in 2021.

Very interesting. Unless im mistaken it seems like prices in the UK go up annually. How do swiss prices compare to UK prices?

I know im looking back on past times with Rose tinted specs, but in the late 80's and early 90's (pre email) I was living in East London and had a lady friend to the West side of London in Middlesex. I cant remember now how much a stamp used to cost back then (17p maybe 19p seems to ring a bell?) and the service was simply amazing.

I was often home from work by mid afternoon, and would pen a few pages to my friend. I live almost opposite a pillar box and Id pop the letter in and often watch out the window just before 5pm. As regular as clockwork the letters were collected almost at 5pm on the dot every day. Although it may have happened, it seemed to me that my letters would consistently arrive just after 9am at her home the next morning and i too would have mail waiting for me when i got home that she had only posted the evening before. - It was a wonderful time and i have such fond memories of it and still am truly graetful for all those that collected, processed and delivered so quickly each day.

In more modern times I have encountered significant delays with one first class letter taking 11 days to travel from Norfolk to Essex, and as I understand it the days of next day delivery are long gone?
