Re: Job share
I find it staggering that this is something that’s not implemented in offices. As you say particularly something that some of the older staff may find appealing if they wish to start winding down but not giving up work completely.
OPG 1: Works M T W
Off T F S S M T W
Works T F S M T W
OPG 2: Off M T W
Works T F S M T W
Off T F S S M T W
This would be beneficial for staff and RM.

Re: Job share
Completely agree. Another possible trained postman who may come in when the office is short rather than paying silly money for agency staff.
Slider tool. Lol.

Re: Job share
Tried to job share with a colleague for 18 months. Management tried every trick under sun to stop it, don’t think they could be bothered doing the paper work.
We got as far as to agree week on and week off, much simpler than days due to floater.
Eventually they gave redundancy to the other guy.
So frustrating.
Less sickness more staff on books etc

Re: Job share
We have 3 duties in my office working job shares, so that's 6 people who works 3 days each. They have been doing this for a few years and it seems to work well, each paring work their own system, 2 lots work alternate days while the other pair work 3 consecutive day each.It also helps if we are short staffed eg sickness as several of them will work their day off or 2.

Re: Job share
Great idea, been job sharing for 12mths, 22.5hrs. each, 2 of us both 60+ couldn't manage five days anymore and both having time off so great solution why should RM not go for it, basically you can do what days and holidays you want, approach your union and give it a go, you won't regret it.

Re: Job share
People in our office got turned down flat and were told the only option was to go part time 5 days a week.
Seems ridiculous to me.

Re: Job share
We had 3 on 3 off duties. They took them out due to additional costs. That's why I'm leaving at 60. The union rep is a waste of space and wont take it up with the management.

Re: Job share
I recently applied to do mon-weds only, because, quite frankly I've had enough.
Not heard a dicky bird after 5 weeks.
This is the problem with RM- they don't WANT their staff to be happy.
Have made the decision to leave at the end of September.

Re: Job share
It is something I will definitely be looking to do within the next 10yrs,however we have a few FT old timers at our office who have been trying to do this for quite a while now.
I just don’t know why RM are so reluctant to allow them to do this, especially when we have young lads, just starting out with young families, mortgages etc on PT contracts.
Let the older fella’s reduce their hours & let the younger lot increase theirs, everyone is happy, surely?

“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: Job share
Thanks.
Tbh I've been mulling it for a while and this has just made me realise how little this company thinks of you, your wellbeing, or general need to just feel happy with your lot.
What annoys me the most is why they don't want to seem to accommodate any flexibility, while at the same time making out they do.
The question is WHY they can't seem to realise that if they make their workforce happy they will actually get more from it.
RM is a total dinosaur in so many respects, and when I do leave I intend to write to the top and explain why I have left, and how poor an employer they actually are.
I like to think I am a good employee in many respects, and will be replaced with someone that will be worn down eventually by the no doubt continuing cycle of neglect and the need to satisfy shareholders.
