I rarely use them but a couple of days ago I had a parcel for a known complainer so I thought I had better give it a go.
I got some kids pretending to be the dad - "I think my son is in but he is probably wanking."
I wrote the 739 out and won't be bothering again.

I do both as from my own experiences with my own Ring doorbell it sends a notification around a minute after somebody presses the button, plus I'm the only member of the household using the app so if I'm out nobody at home gets the notification anyway! I'm surprised they are so popular TBH I'd say only 1 in 10 actually answer them.

Key facts:

Smart doorbells start filming when a motion sensor is triggered - this can be up to 10 metres away – and not simply when you press the bell.
Footage can be recorded by the customer.
Assume that you are being recorded when you are within range of the doorbell. Please ensure that you follow our procedures and are polite at all times.
If the householder asks you to do something with their parcel, make sure you follow the business policies:

• Only leave a parcel if it has a SAFEPLACE instruction on the label.
  Don’t deliver signature products without a signature (it is the poster who has paid for the signature).
  You can deliver to a suggested neighbour – they are more likely to be in and to accept the package.
  If customers are unhappy with what you are able to offer then politely explain that you are following company policies to keep mail secure.

I never use these doorbells now as they can be a runaround for a postman. Ive had it where I have been sent to 3 or 4 different neighbours and non of them have been in. So when the voice comes on ( which as happened with out me ringing the bell ) saying can I try so and so neighbour I just ignore it, I can imagine it must get them mad thinking its not working.

You supply the signature yourself, I do it for tracked and signed for but not special deliveries. I put cv19 and then sign my name, like our dim told us to

when they tell me to put it in recycling bin i do it simple otherwise whats the point of them its another can of worms for us as usual

They may be a lot of things (microphones, cameras) but doorbells they are not. They've proven to be a waste of time and I ignore them all, except for a single customer who does use it as a doorbell and is always in.

I never ring them, and if they "motion activate" and someone tries to speak to me I just blank it, pretend I didn't hear.

Hate them, they're a real intrusion being bloody filmed all the time.
