Royal Mail announces controversial flag ban as customers threaten boycott

Mini flags and stickers cannot be displayed on walking posties’ trolleys

Royal Mail has controversially banned its postal staff from flying the flag for England at Euro 2020.

All flags are barred from the firm’s 45,000 vans and lorries. Mini flags and stickers cannot be displayed on walking posties’ trolleys.

A Royal Mail van driver reportedly spoke out over the decision, saying: “We can’t show our support for England due to health and safety.”

Online, some customers have been left raging by the decision and they have spoken out - with Twitter flooded with angry responses to the ban.

England take on Scotland at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday night having seen Croatia off in a 1-0 victory thanks to a Raheem Sterling goal at Wembley on Sunday.

Wales, meanwhile, have four points from their opening two games, following a win over Turkey on Wednesday evening despite a Gareth Bale missed penalty.

One fumed: "Why does this nonsense come up every time? Why do these people hate our flag? Posties should ignore their pathetic unpatriotic bosses. Agree?"

And a second raged: "The company has banned its 100,000 postmen & post women from flying England flags (and I assume other UK national flags) during Euro 2020. All flags are barred from the firm’s 45,000 vans & lorries. Royal Mail is ashamed to be patriotic."

"All your Vans, what ever nation , the drivers should be able to show their support for their country," said a third.

"What the hell is going on, why are so many companies ashamed of our flag, so wrong," another moaned.

"F***ing ridiculous," added another.

"You're not kidding," chipped in another.

Haven't been allowed to have flags on the vans for years in case they obscure the drivers view/fall off and hurt someone/cause an accident/ect ect. (Their words)

That is stupid as f**k. (My words)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous Royal Mail said bollox so we can reassure ourselves that while Europe is having patriotic fun, Royal Mail are still being the low life boring s***s they have always been during footie tournaments.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Of course it is all stupid.
I wanted to paint my trolley in the colours of the Palestinian flag to show my support for the people of Gaza.
Was I allowed to?

If they’re worried about “things falling off and distracting drivers” they should immediately return all the Iveco and MAN trucks that have been supplied recently, every time one finds a bump in the road the driver is showered with knobs, dials, switches and bits of vehicle trim that seem to have no intention of remaining part of the truck !

I guess that if the flag ban is taken as seriously as the mandatory wearing of face masks there won’t be much to worry about, when I visit NDC anyone wearing a mask is very much in the minority !

someone posted a pic on facebook of a postie in Scotland with a kilt on and a Scotland football top, delivering the mail to a shop. so some offices/gaffers are ok with it. not allowed in ours though.
