US POSTAL Package delays????

Hi,

Came to this site having experienced some delays in a package im expecting sent from US.

It was sent from US on 29th March via US POSTAL. UPS tracking says it was prcoessed through a facility on 5th April but no updates for last 12 days.

Royal Mail tracking last update is 30th March saying item is leaving US and more info will be updated when it arrives in UK.

I contacted UK Customs today and they say if item was being held in customs they would have contacted buyer looking for fees so don't believe delay is with them.

SO im confused as to how it could have arrived in UK 12 days ago and there be no update since???

But looking at some previous threads im thinking maybe this is not so unusual after all?? Does anyone have any recent examples of these kind of delays? I see some posts from mid 2020 duirng pandemic of this kind of thing but wondered if these delays were still being experienced at all?

I don't think it is a discrepency. USPS provide a lot more tracking points then many postal services and RM's system doesn't seem to recognise & translate much of the extra info. In particular, USPS scan items into the receiving country, which most postal administrations don't do, and RM's tracking never recognises that.

It is unreasonable to expect similar items to clear in similar time. As far as we know customs select batches of mail at random for extra checks, so clearance times are never consistent.

Please don't post the same query in multiple threads, it can result in needs duplication of effort from those who help out on here.

Customs don't contact the recipient, they contract that out to the delivery companies. So that sounds entirely wrong.

But also, *how* did you contact customs? Nobody has ever been able to find a telephone number or email address for the part of customs that deals with this. Can you please post the contact details you used into this thread, to help everyone else?

Because customs don't have tracking equipment.

If you look round the site you will find many examples of this, depending on what you term 'recent'. Here is one I found in a few seconds of searching:

12 days is not that long to spend in customs even pre-pandemic.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I contacted HM Customs on 03003229434....

It was US Postal that advised me to ring them as they told me that they cant 'reliably track parcels once they have left the US'.

I'm not entirely convinced the person I spoke to knew what they were talking about and and was quick to fob me off saying if the parcel was with customs then I would have been contacted about it (which like you say doesn't seem quite right) and then proceeded to take the tracking number and just enter it into both the RM and USPS tracking systems and tell me what I already knew.

Sounds like ill just have to be a little more patient and see what develops over the next few days/weeks.

I had a similar issue with a parcel sent from the US to the UK.
It had one update on January 8th then next one was 8th April. You've just got to wait, it seems there is massive delays for some parcels.

It makes no sense if I'm honest, I had parcels sent after the one mentioned arrive already.
