Prestonpans Post Office to retain all its services following pressure from community council

THE Post Office in Prestonpans will retain all its services, following efforts by the town’s community council.

Located in the town’s Scotmid store on High Street, the Post Office is set to change to a local model and, as a result, some services, including banking, were set to be changed or removed.

Customers requiring passports checked, travel insurance or financial services would have had to travel to Tranent or Musselburgh if the changes had gone ahead.

But after efforts by the town’s community council to keep these services in the town, Scotmid confirmed that all services in the Post Office would be retained.

However, the secure counter is due to be removed, meaning those wishing to bank a large amount of money must hold it in the queue until it is their turn to be served.

Speaking to Brian Weddell, chairman of Prestonpans Community Council, a spokesperson for Scotmid said: “After many discussions, I am pleased to confirm we will now retain all services that were available in the mains office when we convert to the local model.

“I would like to thank you for your and the community council’s feedback and time to date.

“We are delighted to retain these services for the local community.”

Members of Prestonpans Community Council shared their joy at the news at its virtual meeting earlier this month, saying it was “good to see” their concerns had been listened to.
