Re: Time to Renegotiate
Manboat the planning of these revisions are extremely complicated as who knows how long the pandemic exceptions are going to be needed ?
This is why the table top revisions productivity improvement is are planned on no Covid restrictions and then if they are needed it will be a reason why the office cannot achieve the productivity improvement.
For the structural revisions which will
take longer to implement 14 weeks at the earliest, for these how can you expect an office to introduce an optimised revision when you can’t use 2 in van or normal workings. This is built into the guidelines.

What about a duty or 2 that solely does D2D?Manboat wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 21:58The duty I’ve been doing during covid is all double slots and when there’s d2d’s it’s so time consuming sifting through the mail and then having to write the house number on the d2d your not gonna take before putting it back in its slot, it’s not a very efficient way of working at all.

I thought the correct procedure with double slots was - if you take one address, you take both. There isn't a correct procedure, mainly because there is little connection between those coming up with the procedures and those actually implementing them.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 22:46I thought the correct procedure with double slots was - if you take one address, you take both. Apparently Royal Mail would also like all of the D2D prepped on a Monday then warmed called through the week so basically if you've got 90% double slots you're not going to want to work Monday.
Perhaps that's how they plan to encourage Sunday working?

I am sure I read somewhere that "best practice" was to take both addresses if one of a double slot had mail.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑22 Mar 2021, 05:20

I think the whole thing is a crock of shite.
It could mean with a 50% call rate you would be delivering 100% of your D2D on Monday.

Re: Time to Renegotiate
Yes it would unless you did what I said and write on it and put it back, still quicker than taking the d2d up a driveway but painfully tedious.

Royal Mail does have Standard Operating Procedures. There are loads of them covering everything from wheeling yorks through emptying collection boxes to returning items to sender.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑22 Mar 2021, 11:45

The one that covers delivery of door to doors says you should only take door to doors when you have mail for the address, except if the mail is a 'double slot' both addresses must be taken even if only one has mail. If a door to door has not been delivered to an address by Saturday, it must be delivered on Saturday regardless of whether the address has mail (Covid has obviously temporarily suspended this last requirement).
In all fairness, most of the SOPs are actually quite well thought out and clearly phrased, even if some of them are a bit optimistic (like checking a york for loose bolts before you push it . . .)

Re: Time to Renegotiate
So lets say you have 3 slots, all doubles, so you have no.2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
On Monday you've thrown all your d2d in, lovely.
The same day you only have mail for no.4 and no.12. so you warm call those, and luke warm call no.2 and 10 as well cos it's in the same slot.
You're a twat so don't write on the ones you haven't done.(or more likely just don't have time cos you've just spent 2 hours throwing 6 lots of d2d in for the week for 2 walks)
You go home having luke warm called probably half the walk, unnecessarily.
Tuesday it's your day off- tell me how the cover man is supposed to know who's had a d2d and who hasn't when he pulls out, assuming only no.4 and no.10 have mail- no.4 will get no.6 d2d (cos that didn't go on Monday), and no.10 will get no.14 cos that's in the next slot along and doesn't have any mail. So no.4 and no.10 have had 2 lots of d2d and no.6 no14 won't get any d2d, at all.
You come back on Wednesday, no.8 is in limbo, cos neither the cover man, nor you on Wednesday doesn't know if that d2d is meant for no.8 or no.10. You put it in no.10 cos, hey no.10 has got mail that day, and no.8 hasn't, right?, how the f**k am I meant to remember if I put a d2d in no.8 or no.10 on Monday? no.10 has now had 3 lots of d2d.
Same for rest of walk.
It doesn't work, does it?
My brain hurts now, but I think I've just proved why someone that's never had a bag on their back should be let anywhere near brilliant ideas like this one.
Edit- I'm now trying to work out which is a worse idea- warm calling or double slots, obviously both together is the devil's work.

Re: Time to Renegotiate
Where's the time coming from to prep possibly two full duties with possibly 6 D2D?
Do they know how difficult it is to then prep sequenced and manual into a double slot frame fully loaded with D2D?
One of the major arguments the CWU used to get D2D into daily workload was to protect full-time jobs.
How does this help?
Okay it helps Royal Mail cut costs, make profits and ultimately pay larger dividends to the shareholders but is that how far the union has sunk?
Where does that kind of mentality end? , I'm sure Royal Mail would make more profits if we agreed to bring our children to work to prep the D2D...

I think I actually have 3 single slots and take great pleasure when there’s no mail for them for a few days and leave the d2d’s

Re: Time to Renegotiate
Especially when one of the 'lukewarm' drops of the double slot is a long freaking driveway
and it's a flimsy piece of A5 paper that you're trying to shove through a stiff letterbox and
it's chucking it down with rain........

Re: Time to Renegotiate
We've had this "Base and Six" entire frames of double slot selections nonsense foisted on our office recently.
Not only has every delivery been left with only a handful of single slots, there are fewer wings and thus space to store packets on the top of the frame....an important consideration in these days of rocket-fuelled packet numbers.
Deliveries with numerous named, rather than numbered, properties still have double slots and are a complete mess, with abbreviations having to be used or unreadable, miniscule font size rendering throwing in the mail a nightmare. Rural frames? Don't ask.
They've even got town centre streets full of shops using double slots.
Chucking the mail into the frames with multiple D2Ds is a complete shitshow.......I'm sure that warm calling will only enhance the experience.

With double slots if you have mail for first house in that slot you take both so if you post to a house with a D2D and your next drop is a D2D you know its for next door.. its easy enough

Re: Time to Renegotiate
I wonder if RM are possibly looking at having all D2D delivered on Mondays. DSA doesn't get processed in MCs at weekends anymore so that reduces the amount of mail for Mondays (especially letters and flats)
