A thief hijacked a Royal Mail worker’s van full of parcels before stealing their own car form a nearby depo.

Police are probing two connected incidents, which happened in Edinburgh's Colinton area on Wednesday, and have issued a warning to couriers and delivery drivers to remain vigilant while making drops.

A source told the Record: “The thief took off with the female delivery driver’s van and all their parcels before going back for her own car.”

A black Honda was later stolen from a Royal Mail delivery office on Gorgie Park Road
Officers were called to Colinton Mains Terrace, close to the local Post Office, at around 1.50pm following the theft of the unmarked van - registration DY20 SYX.

They believe the incident is connected to a the later theft of a black Honda Accord, registration SB06 XLZ, overnight into Thursday.

It was taken from the Gorgie Road area, where Royal Mail’s Dell Delivery Office is.

It’s understood the delivery driver was working for Royal Mail at the time but not driving a branded vehicle.

Neither the van or the Honda have yet been recovered and no one has been traced in connection with the thefts, but officers released a description of a possible culprit today.

Chief Inspector Scott Richardson, Area Commander for South West Edinburgh, said: “Officers are keen to trace a man seen in the Colinton Mains Terrace area around the time of the first theft, who is described as being white, around 30-years-old, with dark hair.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This is strange one.
I'm assuming she left her car keys in the van and she must have told the cops this after the initial van theft but nobody not even plod thought wait a minute, they've got her car keys maybe there could be a problem here or even an opportunity to perhaps catch these guys?

They must have a bit of local knowledge to know where the DO is and who steals a 15 year old Honda Accord?

Yes, it all sounds a bit strange but "hijack" surely means taken by force rather than keys left. Could be the reporter getting carried away though.

Could be a vindictive act, the person knows the postwonan and wants to cause a lot of problems for her.

Not the first time, many years ago one had their car tyres slashed on site, they had a good idea who it was but could not prove it.
