The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred in Woodville Road, Ince, on the morning of February 11.

In the video, the Royal Mail van can be seen pulling up outside an address on the residential street, before the female postal worker gets out to knock at property's front door.

While she waits on the doorstep, a passer-by, wearing all black, can be seen walking towards the van, while keeping a close eye on the employee.

As the suspect approaches the van, they break into a short run and jump into the driver's seat and speeds away. The Royal Mail worker attempts to chase after the stolen van but is unable to catch up as the suspect flees.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation but, so far, no arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At 11:36am on Thursday 11 February 2021, police were called to reports of theft of a motor vehicle at Woodville Road, Ince.

"Enquiries have established that a postal worker was delivering mail when the offender approached her vehicle - a postal delivery van - and fled the scene in the vehicle.

"No arrests have been made."

Anyone with information can call the police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Let's not snowflake it, she's obviously left the keys in the van and possibly the engine running as well.

Prospects not looking good

Left key ignition and engine running by the looks of it, many posties have been sacked for leaving keys in ignition and vans stolen as a consequence, its been said many times, dont do it but it goes in one ear and out the other

Royal Mail are coming down very hard on this.

Why do people do this? I've seen it myself when I've been off work, the temptation to jump in the van and park it around the corner is strong!

She is very lucky to get two year serious.

Let's hope she learns to take the key out and lock every time in future, it's not worth risking your job to save a few minutes.
