It's a bit pathetic that you guys want to make this about Stephen and his particular circumstances.

It will affect a lot of people, some of them in a far more precarious financial position than Stephen.

I'm glad this is such a non issue for you guys, maybe that makes you feel good, I don't seek comfort in other people's misfortune.

At the end of the day the decision to have a cut off date so far away from the payment date makes no logical sense other than purely financial and the union should have at least questioned that.

Its what is fair that counts . If the agreement had been sorted say in May 2020 then Stephen would have been on the new rate anyway. Anyone who has retired since should get the backdated ,simple as . It is the right thing to do especially with us ploughing on through this pandemic!

Don't know about "questioned" it but they should have stuck to the universally-accepted way of calculating back pay and refused to go along with RM's little money-saving ruse.
Missus used to work for an NHS Trust for many years in the salaries and wages department, and part of any pay award was calculating back pay for staff in-post and departed over the relevant period.
Whether they were still employed or not was irrelevant; if they'd been employed during the qualifying period they were legally entitled to back pay for the relevant period or part period.
Trust RM to change the rules and trust the CWU to be dumb enough to go along with it.

I left my previous job in the October and the following April people of my grade were given a lump sum bonus of £400. I was very surprised to find £400 in my bank account from it, but it was correct as I had been employed during the period the payment was for.

It is wrong to not pay it, there is no other way of looking at it. Anyone saying "tough" are one of the reasons why RM will always defeat the workforce, too many people only thinking of themselves and to ready to laugh at others.

Sadly true. When people say things like "well, you got the advice money" as some sort of reply to not getting the full back pay then you know RM will always have the upper hand with the workforce/union.

When I left RM in November I didn't even get all the hours I was still due. So getting any back pay for the overdue pay rise seemed unlikely..

It may well be something as simple as when you are employed by RM they have an upto record of where you live and your bank details etc. When you leave the business these details may change over time. People move house and change banks etc. If RM had to then find those people who have left the business the cost may be open ended. Hence the cut off point of when the agreement is signed.
Any sighting of Martin Walsh to give his opinion on the matter?

Nope! It was a financial decision pure and simple. I’ve recently been payed some other monies they owed me, they wasn’t too concerned then about paying into a dead account or not. I think the issue here is why the Cwu conceded to this. Was it because most of us are no longer members and we don’t count anymore?

The cut off date has to be sometime.
Yes. After the back pay has been paid. It's disgusting of the cwu to treat retired or left members in this way. Absolutely disgusting.

This is very poor. My mate retired in november. I've now been paid higher wages april to november than him. Surely illegal. :thumbdown

Apparently if you were sacked even after the cut off date, even last week you don't get the back pay either.

Not sure how legally sound that is?

Sounds iffy to me, but then with-holding back pay does too.
The union should test it in court....oh hang on a minute, they were in on it too.
