yes it's really straightforward to do it online, just go onto the website and follow the instructions, I would recommend doing it that way to be honest, as you won't feel as pressured to sell at that given price if you are not on the phone.

I know the shares took several dives, and looked a pretty unattractive offer for some time, but how do they stand nowadays compared to when we got them? :cuppa

Cheers, That's nice to know. :thumbup

I don't think it'll be enough to retire on though, think I'll just keep them and see how they go. Everyone seems to think we're going to make a killing out of the increase in parcels .... I'll wait and see. :cuppa

Free shares can be sold now but have 64 shares that state if sold before October are liable for tax and nat ins
Is there a way of selling before October if you have left Royal Mail as a good leaver. Ive gone online but cannot see a way of selling without paying tax. Do Royal Mail have a method in place to enable this. Any advice appreciated

A good leaver is someone who leaves RM via:

Redundancy
IHR
Aged 60+
The business is sold or transferred
Death

If any of the above applies they should write to you a within few weeks after you leave with your options, and presumably the Equiniti website will be updated?
If they don't apply, you'll still have to pay tax and NIC's on the 2016 batch until their 5 year anniversary in October.

Sorry to hijack this thread but my "New topic" link has disappeared. Would anybody know if there are any disadvantages of moving shares to the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service as I've been asked to withdraw all my shares from the SIP, and although I'm classed as a " good leaver" and therefore exempt from tax and NI, I would like to keep my shares for a while longer due to the rise in value. Would I be liable to capital gains tax, income tax and NI, and would there be any more fees when I finally decide to sell them if I transfer all my shares to RMNSS?

When you leave RM you have to take your shares out of the SIP.
You can do that by selling them, transferring to the Equiniti nominee account or transferring out to another platform of your choice.

You will not be liable for any income tax or NIC's, and Capital Gains Tax is only payable on gains over £12,300, which won't be a problem if you're only selling your free RM shares.

I would guess the selling fees Equiniti charge will be similar via the nominee account as with the SIP? But whether there's any charges for transferring, I don't know.
