RMSPS 3 Months to complete paperwork

Post by cjjs »

Hi Everyone

Just to say im 55 in July and and looking to draw my pension early.
I contacted only RMSPS as my time at Royal Mail was from 1988 to 2003 and was told they will adminster everything including my AVCs but to call back in April as they now only need 3 months to calculate the figures and complete the paperwork etc,has anyone else only had to call RMSPS and everything completed in 3 months ?

Thank You

Before COVID-19 even existed I took my NRA60 at 55, it took almost 5 months from start to finish thanks to RMSPS delays and that’s after I had to email the CEO at RMSPS. Maybe I was just unfortunate but a few colleagues who took their pension early are averaging 4 months from start to end .

Thanks for your reply ! i must admit i was surprised to be told to call back in April for July, problem is if i call back before April they will not get the ball rolling, perhaps applying by email may be worth trying ?

I phoned 4 months before my birthday to RMPP and they said 4 months was earliest I could apply, maybe policy has changed. All went smoothly until RMSPS sat on figures for 6 weeks. RMPP told me they couldn’t proceed until RMSPS released figures. Stephen500 kindly advised CEO of RMSPS address ( apologies I can’t find email address at moment ). My advice is don’t accept if any delays that your enquiry will be escalated as I was advised. Hopefully things have improved but time will tell :thumbup

Mine went smoothly, but I guess only because I started the ball rolling with six months to go (although RMPP told me the most I should have been ahead was five months) As I was working for RM, I went through RMPP and no I would not wait for 3 months beforehand. Give them the date your want to take your pension and do it five months in advance. I got my lump sum and pension all to time and btw RMSPS give 17 weeks as the time line on their own website and 17 weeks is over 4 months at least! So quote their 17 week flow chart back at them. Insist on it at least 4 months and go for five.

That chart is a timeline for taking your pension at NRA, but you want to take it 5 years early.
Maybe that accounts for the difference?

I did all mine through RMPP, who also handled the start of the paper work for RMSPS and I did it 6 months early, although they told me, it should have been 5 months. I did not have to contact RMSPS to start their ball rolling seperatly because I was still in RM employment. You should only have to contact RMSPS seperatly if you have left RM employment. Whether they work to a much tighter frame work, if you have left RM I don't know.
