A picture of a postman braving the treacherous conditions in Harrogate today has attracted praise and admiration from residents.

The spa town is one of many parts of Yorkshire - particularly North Yorkshire - that has been bombarded with snow today (Friday).

But while many have focused on the chaos being caused due to the treacherous conditions - with cars being abandoned across the county - one picture has lifted the spirits of those who have been given an extra reason on top of the coronavirus pandemic to stay indoors.

Helen Empson posted the picture of the postman on The Avenue in a Harrogate community group on Facebook saying: "Just saw this happening and had to share! This postman deserves a medal!"

She told Yorkshire Live that she took the picture at 11am this morning and that the postman was "just carrying on like it was a normal day".

The post has since had over 800 likes and over 100 comments from admirers, with many pointing out the hard graft the postal workers have carried out throughout the coronavirus panic to make sure people get their mail.

One woman wrote: "Don’t forget the postmen and postwomen haven’t had one day off due to Covid-19. Let’s all remember they are out whatever the weather.

"We all want our mail."

Another woman posted: "I think that the postal workers and couriers have all done an absolutely awesome job throughout the whole of lockdown!"

One woman posted saying that the postman in the picture was her boyfriend Tyler Nugent, to which another resident responded: "I think he deserves a very large cuppa when he's home!"
