Can Royal Mail track who signed for my delivery?

Post by Melo555 »

Happy new year everyone and good morning,

I was hoping for some clarification in regards to a item which has been sent to me tracked, signed for first class which has been signed for by a random person. I have previously not had any issues with Royal Mail delivering to wrong address at my current property and I regularly get delivery’s. However on 6th January at approx 10:28 hours a postman from Stratford depot London has got a signature from someone for a very expensive parcel. This person is completely random to me as the name is not familiar. I’ve checked with all my neighbours on the street and even any other flats local that are the same number. Nothing, nobody at my address has signed for it and I’ve spoken to customer services they are saying it’s showing as delivered to my house. However I’m more than certain that it was not delivered to my address.

Now the seller has sent me the address label and picture of the package and the address is perfect and clearly written. So no issues with that. I genuinely can’t work out where my parcel is and customer services have told me I need to wait for the depot manager to investigate. I was wondering how will they find out which address it’s been delivered to? And would it be useful if I personally went into depot and spoke to someone myself as if they can just contact the driver/postman while his memory is still fresh and he/she can point me in the right direction. As I genuinely cannot afford losing the value of the item.

Can Royal Mail track who signed for my delivery?

No.

But they can get a GPS position at the point it was scanned. I would recommend going down to the Delivery Office and ask to speak to a manager they can check the system for you.

Hi,

I’ve just been down to the delivery office and they told me it’s been delivered to my address. I’m afraid they were useless and said that I should claim it lost and did not want to help at all. They keep saying it’s delivered to my address however nobody has received the parcel from my address.

This is very suspect now and I am on the verge of contacting the police. Someone has signed for my parcel yet Royal Mail can’t tell me who because it’s not my address for sure.

If the staff you spoke to at the delivery office advised you to claim for the item as lost, then do that. Them advising this is them helping in one of the few ways they can. That said: ensure you speak to a manager about it first (as advised here by TrueBlue above) as they can look further into where the item was scanned.

Noone here can tell you anything different (it's a non-official forum) and noone here knows the circumstances of your parcel.

They must know which PDA scanned the item and then also the postie involved.
The longer this takes the less likely they are to remember anything.

You probably spoke to front line staff who probably don't have the responsibility, authority, time or knowledge to dig down into the data to
investigate the circumstances ie identify which posties digital device scanned the parcel and the GPS co-ordinates
of where it was scanned. That is a manager's job and will hopefully be prompted if you make an official claim.
