I posted a 1st class letter but forgot the house number - but I realised only a few minutes later so posted a second letter in the same postbox with the same name and address, but including the house number. Do you think the letters will be processed in the same way and kept together, so the postman will have both and see that they're to the same house?
It's quite a large street so I'm not sure if they would recognise the name.

No there is very little chance they'll be processed together. Postie has to bag the items on collection, then they are passed through at least 2 sorting machines probably more. However there is a good chance that they will arrive in the same batch of post at the delivery posties desk. If so they may be able to deliver both as normal, but obviously not 100% certain they will be.

Personally, my experience has always been positive with stuff like this.
I ordered a bunch of stuff from eBay one weekend, but little did I realise I'd somehow forgotten my house number and road name...
Thankfully, I had the post code and name, so they got the road name from that and my house number from (I presume) a letter for family at my house.
Some of the work RM employees put in is amazing.
God knows how none of the sellers picked up on this, though...
