Mainly rural deliveries who have absolutely no help with pkts.
How much chance would a dedicated packet duty have of finding the locations on a rural walk unless it's all villages?
I can’t speak for other DOs but I’ve done all but 1 rural here and have offered to be the packet support.

I’ve also asked multiple times to be trained on the final rural but the duty holder works just about all his days off (and chuffing holidays!) and has a stranglehold over who is allowed to do his duty, I don’t know what he has over management but it’s saying something when he’s telling them who is allowed to do his duty. Only 2 others know his round, both refuse to work over their time or be moved.
Haha sounds like he knows it’s a piece of piss and needs stuff adding but doesn’t want other random posties mentioning that to management. It’s truly astonishing the power some of this high seniority crew have, they literally run my office. Crazy.

Had an absolute shitter yesterday. Start at 12, didn't get out on delivery till 2. 1st loop had Thursday, Friday & Saturday's mail in it. Not sorted, just chucked in here and there. Took an 1.5 hours just to clear it. Followed cutting off procedure and left the other three loops i'd been given to clear 40 odd tracked.

Manager asked why I didn't complete. Told manager it's one thing to be waiting over an hour for a van and potentially cut off if i can't go over, but if I'm gonna have to traipse back to multiple houses multiple times to deliver multiple missorts, or if I have to sort it while im trying to deliver it, something's gotta give.

So today manager took all the oversized off me and gave me about 25 drive arounds and the round to complete. Wonderful. Was actually a piece of piss walk today. Finished early.

Mind you i started an hour early just to get everything properly ready for delivery. Manager asked me why i came in so early and I made a point of saying how badly missorted yesterday's was and how much time i wasted trying to rectify it. Before I started manager told me "oh yeah, we've done it all for you so its ready to go out".

Pulled all the packets off it, turned for them all and sorted them into the loops they were supposed to be in did the redis and the missorts in front of her.

If I hadn't come in an hour early I'd probably still be out :dance

I've been browsing over the comments on the Royal Mail subreddit thread lately, and some of them make for interesting reading. :cuppa

From South Yorkshire's Rotherham Advertiser - Letter to the Editor (11 December, 2020) ~ Postal Workers Are Heroes
AFTER reading the letters section, I thought I just had to write as they were mostly downcast to say the least.

Surely in this terrible time of uncertainty we should try to be more optimistic in our thoughts and actions.

We have praised our wonderful NHS and rightly so, but it is time to mention the other key workers who have stood proud throughout this Covid pandemic. The police, fire service, council workers, supermarket staff, shop assistants etc. But most of all, don’t forget your postal workers.

They deliver to your home daily letters and now more and more packages without any thanks at all.

I have heard of several cases where they have been abused, even had people coiling back in repulsion when the postman/woman knocks at their doors as if they are delivering Covid-infected letters or packages.

Some just snatch their post and slam the door in their faces. How rude is that?

Postal workers deliver regardless of the weather conditions, even heavy rainfall, snow etc., and some people even have the audacity to moan their post is wet.

So the next time you see your postal worker, remember they also have families fearing their loved ones may catch this terrible virus, but they have a job to do and they don’t have the option to work from home.

This is the season of goodwill, so let’s all thank our key workers for the jobs they do so we can continue to receive the service they provide. After all, good manners cost nothing.

I had a customer (a rude, horrible woman) who yelled from her top floor window that just because her car is in the drive doesn't mean she's in and I shouldn't leave her parcel on the doorstep. I was furious.
The stupid woman didn't realise I put the parcel (a perishable item) on the doorstep and walked halfway up her path waiting to see any sign that someone was in. I saw her at the window so off I went and that's when she called me back to complain. I obviously saw her before she saw me.
Some people don't realise you see them in their house and know they are there or you hear them coming to the door so just leave the parcel and go.

Jeez its a bad christmas for sure. Just want this one to be over.

The thing about some customers jumping away from the door when you call is true. Its like you have plague or something. I just drop the mail inside the door and "try" to understand but its hard when your out and about visiting any number of addresses.

Some walks have not gone out in 3 days and its shocking to see the mail piled up. The tracked has gone but still 9 packet bags remain so you cannot even reach the RM 2000. if you could 8 perstops of mech await plus the ips mail. Total mess. Iam taking out around 60% of my own delivery and rotating it daily. This is fine till i have a rest day and it does not go out. Then i walk into 7 packet bags which is soul destroying.

Ive done a lot of xmases but never seen fails on this scale. For the brave and un experienced we have people starting at 6am and finishing deliveries at 7pm. All for less than 5 hours OT. Personally iam finished no later that 15 mins over my time. Life is to short and home life is worth more than RM profit.

Finally we are told to keep up with D2D which cont to roll in whilst letters and packets remain un delivered. You could not make it up.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Simple answer card every parcel at that address now after quietly knocking first

I have an unofficial HTPostman hit list. Anyone who gets funny with me or is rude goes on the list, no more helping them. Parcel for their name but it’s missing their house number? Back it goes to sender. Slipped a parcel but noticed they are in later? Carry on with my day.

We all have off days so if they apologise or admit they are wrong they get a reprieve.

Thankfully there’s only a handful on the list!
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I was gonna say exactly that. If someone is rude and cant appreciate that you were trying to deliver a perishable item. This address would be blacklisted and I would go as far as just scanning parcel on the door step and and post quietly pre written 739 through. Even if they complain you didnt knock if there is no cctv footage to back it up its their word against yours.

This from yesterday:
I can't see there is anything to suggest that was a RM employee.
No uniform - possibly agency? but a laptop was surely sent Special Delivery and our agency workers don't do SD.
Maybe a courier but much easier to blame us?

I started feeling nauseous later in the day today. It got worse after I finished on time. I felt really ill in the stomach and I was about to throw up. I even felt as if I was about to have a bad case of irritable bowel syndrome. Anyway, I was not in good shape.

I guess I should've stopped eating all that free chocolate I was given on my round today.

F**kin' customers. :evil/mad
