Re: The "How was your day" thread.
In one of the lorries arriving at our DO from the MC today we had seven Yorks of mail including Tracked items destined for another DO ten miles away or more. The driver reckoned someone at the MC had switched the tags on the Yorks either for a joke or because they had a grudge against RM. We already had too much work to do for the day but this kind of thing doesn't enhance our reputation.

.....as long as you can find the next packet the PDA is telling you to deliver in the giant pile of packets (which is always semi sorted until you go around the first roundabout or some jerk emergency brakes in front of you).onejontwo wrote: ↑11 Dec 2020, 19:51Do you not have the option on your PDA to scan all the intended parcel delivery barcodes which then puts them in a route just like the Argos driver? We have been using this set-up for the agency staff and surprisingly it actually works!Jhpknot1 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2020, 04:32Currently doing parcels as an Xmas driver down south. Spoke with an argos driver yesterday. He was devastated he had to do 40 drops. Said it was busiest he's ever seen it? Told him I had about 180 drops?? He told me how organised argos is down to the loading of the van, even his pda guides him round?
How come a company like RM are so far behind the competition. We must be the biggest delivery company in the UK and its like we're fixing the Titanic with sheets of paper, its ridiculous. We have to write down our deliveries or try and remember them? When it comes to progress we are such a slooooooooow company.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
I went into work today and had to put some mail in the frame, do redirections and sort out packets and tie-down. Took an hour to get all that done and to load the van. Since I'm part-time, I have 5 hours to do everything. Took a Yorkie full of parcels out and 5 loops of mail. Finished bang on time. Left three and a half loops of mail in the frame. It's just ridiculous. Meanwhile, those who get their packets done have clear frames!
Not to mention I have 3 collections to do (not today, but mon to fri) and the boxes are full to the brim with cards. It's too much work and cannot possibly be done in time.
Are these bloody households going to stop now?

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
We are getting paid an hour overtime to go in an hour earlier to just do sorting into our own frames. I am probably the latest back in our office each day at the moment finishing just before it gets properly dark. Some others appear to be getting back roughly on time or a bit over and one was getting back early the other day. The shared vans are getting the majority of the parcels taken off them.
I think I have one D2D for this coming week but didn't have any for week just gone. To be honest there just isn't time or space in the frames to fit multiple D2Ds into frames this year. Even during an ordinary Xmas it is difficult. RM really should defer the payment for December and not arrange D2D contracts then. We already cancel annual leave for December anyway so the precedent is set. Really does look like the public - me included
- have left ordering Xmas presents too late this year even though news in the media months ago told them not to do so. I think there will be many more presents arriving after Xmas than usual this year. Cannot really blame anyone for it though except maybe the public for not thinking ahead.

Getting finished just as it's getting dark! Blimey your office sounds well run. I'd say there are about 20% of us that are all getting back around six o clock. Mainly rural deliveries who have absolutely no help with pkts. We muddle on leaving letters and oversize standards on an alternate basis, there's loads waiting for us tomorrow unless anyone has done them today. We have to be back at 4pm Saturday so hence have to leave quite a bit.Celgar wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 10:54We are getting paid an hour overtime to go in an hour earlier to just do sorting into our own frames. Re: The "How was your day" thread.
I can’t speak for other DOs but I’ve done all but 1 rural here and have offered to be the packet support.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 21:44How much chance would a dedicated packet duty have of finding the locations on a rural walk unless it's all villages?
I’ve also asked multiple times to be trained on the final rural but the duty holder works just about all his days off (and chuffing holidays!) and has a stranglehold over who is allowed to do his duty, I don’t know what he has over management but it’s saying something when he’s telling them who is allowed to do his duty. Only 2 others know his round, both refuse to work over their time or be moved.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Obviously farms would be done on the duty coz your going round them anyway but villages could be done.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 21:44How much chance would a dedicated packet duty have of finding the locations on a rural walk unless it's all villages?

Unbelievably busy. 4 yorks of packets when normally you’d have 1 (even last week there was ‘only’ 2 yorks).
Emptied a post box which is usually empty or just has a handful of letters in.....full right to the top with cards just resting on the opening, must have been 400 letters in there.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Double mail on a difficult duty. Had all my oversized taken from me and chucked in 2 sacks of packets. There was 5! Loads of mail left on the IPS. Someone had thrown the mail in for me as well. Just about finished on time. Pedometer has me walking 15 miles! 15 Hard miles! 6 n half hours of walking. Absolutely knackered.

Collections extremely busy. Boxes full to the roof, took me a solid 7 minutes to empty one postbox. Two full bags of letters from it.
