Yes it is.
And it's a no.
And you and I both know it.
So rather than waste the next 18 months playing kidology with the members and then enter into another protracted period of negotiations with the business potentially in a weaker position why not start from a clean slate and be up front with members.
Nothing that happens in the next 18 months with regards to mail volumes will change Royal Mail’s direction of travel on reducing letter deliveries but if we can get involved in the planning and don't kid yourself the planning will have already started then we can influence how it shapes redundancies, delivery planning and attendance patterns.
If not we will be caught cold again just as we were in 2010 with van sharing.
There's nothing to be gained from pretending that the move to 5 day letter deliveries is anything less than a nailed on certainty. It's wasting time and dishonest.
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"
The point is, anything to do with the USO should have no bearing on any of these negotiations.
Because, as has been proved before,
a. we have no say in what happen with the USOs, it is down to the regulator.
b. we need to be looking at a short term deal as we don't know what's around the corner, nobody does.
c. how can anyone possibly negotiate anything further forward than a year or due to a. and b.?
If the union want us to trust them, they need to be up front about all the issues.
The fact that TP can/t even be bothered to update when he promises to, whether we have a deal or not is irrelevant, speaks volumes.
To be perfectly honest, I am out of here in 2 years so I couldn't give a monkey's, it just annoys the hell out of me how irrelevant we are made to feel by both RM and the union which purports to represent our best interests.
At the end of the day an act of parliament can only change the USO! We need better communication with our union this is something which should be happening every month to each members houses with mail. The biggest thing is trust how can we trust these bonus grabbing managers ever again when they did not implement the last deal, Big changes happened in the last deal and only half the deal was forthcoming!
It's quite interesting read all the comments. I've previously heard from Royal Mail that they want to get
the parcels what Hermes Yodel Dpd deliver . I don't think i'm alone in thinking we can't even deliver what we get now .

I agree any company with a union always comes out way better than a buisness that hasnt, thats how weve held on to the terms we have got, people on here always banging on about how easy it is to get a deal done as if RM is gona say yeah just have more pay and an easier day,and if TP is just sitting with his feet up with cigar laughing like its not complex.

From what I can gauge, most peoples grievance about the negotiations relate to the limited information released, and more notably the constantly elapsing timeframes for an announcement.
