No doubt any pay deal in terms of back pay will be a set lump sum if agreed and it’ll be pro rata....therefore shafting the part-timers
Yep totally agree...the pro-rata shaft again! We have had the covid bonus pro-rata shaft, the annual xmas bonus pro-rata shaft, the illegal holiday pay average overtime pay shaft, the delivery supplement pro-rata shaft...then a load of revision activity next year and the good old seniority shaft
I’d absolutely urge the union to ensure any agreement on backdated pay etc is on hours worked. There’s an ever increasing number of PT, most are floaters, don’t know their day off until sometimes the Saturday before the following week. Every day put on rounds that haven’t gone for days. A lot are working the afternoon shift. Expected to master driving any van thrown their way - I make it there’s 10 types of vans at our depot including hire vans and the first time you drive one is in a yard with inches of room either side, it’s amazing how every different van handles differently, has it’s own unique biting point...I witnessed a colleague reverse his hire van into another van in the yard yesterday....why? Because he’d been given the only van in the yard without reversing sensors. Then there’s a number who (sadly) feel pressured into using their own vehicles.
I’m not stupid enough to think Dave and Terry read these forums but my Christmas wish this year is that any agreement isn’t the usual pro rata for PTers.
I reckon within 10 years there’ll be more PT staff than FT. Wouldn’t it be a good idea for the union to start trying to engage with the PT staff before it’s too late....
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
Why don't the cwu and RMG do an exercise asking how many would be interested in evr and the terms? If they got enough then they could get them paid off and gone then develop the business to be more successful in the future, win /win no? I'd be willing to bet at least 10k posties would walk at a yrs salary.
I just don't see it.
About 10 years ago in our office they did such an exercise. Although people knew the rough amount they would be offered, they went willingly into the process, got given the expected figure, went home and did the calculations that it really wasn't worth it, then declined it.
I think 10k a mega underestimate, I think a lot of people just hanging on for evr in all parts of the business.
Me too, that's why I said at least. This ain't 10 yrs ago. The job is very very different.
And the employment field out with Royal Mail is very different to 10 years ago. I understand that for people less than 10 years away from retirement EVR might make sense, but there are a huge amount of fairly young staff in our office that say they want 'out' with EVR that just isn't going to happen in my view.
If I weren't in a pretty financially secure position I would stay with the relative security of being with s large company such as royal mail where let's face it compared like for like, the pay ain't too bad. Myself? I'd sign up tomorrow for evr and many long servers over 55 would too I reckon.
Well just got a letter off Royal Mail today to basically say your not getting anything . No bonus , no lump sum and be lucky to part of the business. I wont expect anything positive out of these talks

The two £100 bonus payments at Xmas are contractual so he wasn't talking about them. So long as you meet the criteria for one it will be paid alongside the other (which has no terms to meet so is paid regardless).
