2 year postie there is a long way to go on the USO change , it is not likely to come in till late 2022 and will require primary and secondary legislation.
The CWU’s position is clear that we would like to protect the 6 days USO. Additionally within the current talks we are looking to achieve further statements around job security and MTSF.
Oh my god how naive are this union. This will come in well before 2022 if Royal Mail and the Tory government want it.
Ohhh you might get a statement on job security, it’s not like Royal Mail have went back on every joint statement made recently. Yous are being played yet again and it’s so frustrating to see.
Almost 9000 postmen and women left the business last year without VR. Royal Mail have also started to only recruit on a fixed term contact , whilst there will be voluntary redundancies it will not be on the scale that some envisage.
Anyone can see there is no profit in 90% of the crap we deliver. So much is non essential and eventually it will go. As a private company there will be no sentiment towards the USO. If it was my company i would reduce letter delivery to 3 days, so one postman could do 2 duties on an alternate basis. This would reduce headcount, after all the staff are the biggest cost. Parcel revenue is out there waiting to be gobbled up. Technology is also there to end the ridiculously inefficient way we process parcels. With an aging workforce many who would jump at VR there is scope to manage the reduction in staff in a palatable way, which at the same time would take out the backbone of the union, and allowing initially to keep good ts and Cs for the flexible workforce that will remain. Whether the current managers at every level have the ability to ability to perform such a transformation successfully remains to be seen. Change is coming, but the pace of it, as in anything RM is more than likely going to be very slow.
No one is naive , Of Com are carrying out a review in line with the commitment that the USO has to be reviewed after 2022.
It is the licence , hence why it cannot happen before. It is not in the gift of either Royal Mail or the union to agree any change or status quo.
It requires primary and secondary legislation and it require a lot of Parliament time so it ain’t going to happen quicker.
Remember DPD , Yodel , Hermes will also want to submit report to the consultation process asking for access to a DSA type of arrangement for parcels and that Royal Mail should let lose the vat exemption or that second class should deregulated.

Any ideas if we’re getting any communication of Terry tomorrow Martin, he did say this week either way we’d hear from him
Let's all be honest if lets say it goes to a five day week for everyone in a delivery office and we all get lets say sunday and monday off and no need for a cover person on a 1 in 6 sat off rotation meaning we will lose 1/6th of delivery office staff but retain the remaining 5/6 th of staff or we could just go bust and all lose our jobs isn't this a good idea bearing in mind that there are about a 1/6 th of delivery staff who would take e/r or v/r so no one would really lose there jobs and we would as a company retain everyone's job as such and possibly a decent pay rise as we are more profitable???.
Just an idea

it won’t be Sunday and Monday off as they want to stop letters and n Saturday so most will work mon-Friday. With parcel deliveries weekend
don't like the sound of 2022 wish it was the morra after 34 years walking the streets its not just that my body is starting to fall apart but stress levels have never been higher trouble is nobody wants or can afford to leave with nothing .
What a load of bollox! The regulator has never liked royal mail ever since this none elected dictatorship was set up its always wanted to put the boot in when it comes to royal mail these two bit crap parcel courier companies (like Hermes and the rest) don't have to release there failure rate they doorstep to the extreme they are just not regulated we on the othe hand get as much a a letter wet when the posties delivering on the rain and all hell brakes loose so maybe if this dictatorship is looking to review the industry maybe just maybe they might look at these crap parcel couriers and see what they are actually up to.........but I think probably not they will probably just stick the boot into royal mail YET AGAIN

Fair enough I stand corrected. Thanks for the reply.
I don't drive so people like me will be kicked out even though we've been doing the job for 10 - 20 - 30 years
Yeah I think they would love to to target non drivers but how they would be able to legally I dont know.no idea if they could change contracts to make driving mandatory.
