If it did, or there were plans to do it, would the items have been held at the Mail Centre, or would they have come out to the Delivery Office daily, and put aside somewhere there, for them to all be delivered on Saturday? Did Royal Mail have technology at that time that could somehow automate that process and if so, is that what they've got in mind now to defer this new category of mail item?

It could only have ever been done in the DOs, only mech mail would have been sorted to walk level back then, everything else would have been sorted just down to DO level (with maybe a few splits for the areas covered by a DO)

Not without letters.

Since letters and parcels are predominantly delivered together there's only one cost for covering the ground, that cost can be allocated to both streams equally or if you want to be creative with your accounting just to letters to make them seem unprofitable.

If you remove letters then that cost is moved entirely on to the parcels meaning reduced profit or a hike in prices possibly leading to lost work.

It all sounds like a management dream: holding DSA mail for 4 days so we've a lot less to carry and it looks like walks can be merged, until day 4 is up and all the mail for the majority of a walk comes through at once.

Unfortunately this is another load of bollocks dreamt up by computer whizz kids. Sitting there pumping in stats all day to get a load of bullshit figures spewing out. As we know, but RM senior management can’t seem to get their heads around this is one job that can’t be run by computers. Everyday, every office , every employee is different. Every bloody household is different and each household itself has its own habits on what mail/parcels it receives. It’s impossible to try and squeeze all of this into a one size fits all computer generated standard. What the company needs is to get rid of the people at the top who clearly don’t/can’t understand the very nature of the business they’re in and get management in that do get it. Stop employing these Smart Alec types who want to change the world. Nothing wrong with change but it’s got to be for the right reasons and implemented properly.

It will get processed as normal like now in MCs and sent to DOs each day. Apart from mech mail we don't sort down to walk level so all the retention and stuff would have to be done in DOs
