Understand the external threat
The canteen rumour at break time this morning was something about a pay deal but only from August and a one off lump sum, no mention of the stings that would be attached.

Another week passed, it’s the half year results that Martin alluded to on Thursday. Are we to assume we will hear something from the CWU before hand or are we to just learn our fate from the company?

Understand the external threat
We will hear from Royal Mail first. Then terry being the professional he is will do a Facebook shouty rant acting all surprised about whatever news drops. He will then return to hibernation until around April. Dave ward may post some garbage on Twitter about how the Labour Party can save us and that’s his 100k wage justified in his eyes.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:Another week passed, it’s the half year results that Martin alluded to on Thursday. Ofcom will release a ‘User Needs Review’ based on a consultation they carried out; this is expected around November 2020.

Company’s financial results announced at 7am tomorrow, I thought it was in RM’s interest to have a deal done by then.......

That’s what the union would like us to believe. Royal Mail can and will do as they please and the union know it. If the Cwu can’t organise a strike then it really is powerless. Could be an interesting few days coming up.Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑18 Nov 2020, 19:04Company’s financial results announced at 7am tomorrow, I thought it was in RM’s interest to have a deal done by then.......

Re: Understand the external threat
That's what Martin Walsh told us in no uncertain terms when he started this thread. Then at the beginning of this week he stated on a different thread that we should get a full CWU update in the next 2 weeks. I.e. after the half yearly announcement to the market. Patience is fast running out but hopefully we won't have too long now before the future becomes a little clearer.

Re: Understand the external threat
The sceptic in me thinks both sides are dragging things out on any new deal so that the vote from us on it will be decided after Christmas. I can't remember how long we usually get to vote on any new deal once it's put on the table for members. Hopefully someone on here can remember the timeframe.

There's probably also external events to consider. Like how well this Christmas is going to be and when it looks like the pandemic will end. The type of Brexit deal we get - or not - will have an effect.

Re: Understand the external threat
So the half year results have been and gone (I'm not sure what happened to that half a billion pound loss that the union were expecting). The share price has risen as a result. We still have no word of the deal that RM desparately needed before releasing the results in order to make those results more palatable to shareholders.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑25 Oct 2020, 17:14I have to say I am surprised no one has picked up on the pressure that Royal Mail are under to agree a deal.
No deal with the CWU will mean real pressure on GLS being sold and than as Royal Mail has not made a profit on its own for several years the share price drops and than a take over with the direct aim of breaking up the profitable parts of the company and letting the rest including the USO wither on the vine.
The CWU don’t need a ballot to get a deal Royal Mail need a deal
The silence has been deafening.
Have the union been played, with RM feeding them fake news, or did the the leadership come up with this strategy that RM would need a deal all by themselves?

We all know its coming ,what the CWU should be doing is getting good packages for the people who want to leave then Royal mail can start taking on people who are willing to deliver a parcel for 50p ,most people have had enough and want to go.

Re: Understand the external threat
I really don’t understand this line that people regularly trot out. From the day you join RM you are free to leave at any point. No- one holds a gun to your head and says you have to stay for the rest of your life. In all jobs people come and go all the time, yet in RM there’s this mentality that you only leave if you can get VR. As for most people have had enough - I or anyone else on here doesn’t know whether that’s true or not and unless you speak to 120,000 odd people to find out it’s again just a line that’s trotted out as fact. Where do people think they’re going to pick up work if they do leave? Do you think other employers are any better? I would love to know how many medium/long term RM employees leave and go on to better themselves. Yes working at RM can be s**t at times, yes it’s bloody hard going and the workload can be relentless, however I doubt that these mythical jobs that some think exist elsewhere are any better.guardianangel wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 22:10We all know its coming ,what the CWU should be doing is getting good packages for the people who want to leave then Royal mail can start taking on people who are willing to deliver a parcel for 50p ,most people have had enough and want to go.
