MP Tim Farron launches petition for free mail to care homes

SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron has launched a petition calling for the Royal Mail to allow people to send cards and parcels to people in care homes for free for the rest of the year.

Tim Farron, MP for the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency, last month wrote to the Royal Mail, asking it to follow the lead of Irish company An Post, which is carrying packages up to 2kg addressed to care and nursing home residents for free until January 31.

In a letter of response, David Gold, director of public affairs and policy at the Royal Mail, said the company had noted the An Post initiative 'with interest' and would be 'looking at it in more detail.'

Mr Farron said: “Letters and parcels from loved ones delivered via the Royal Mail have been a Godsend during this time, but with us now in another lockdown we need to do more to keep that vital contact.

“I’m really glad that the Royal Mail say they are seriously looking into this proposal of free post to care homes for the rest of the year.

“Please help us persuade them that this would be the right thing to do for people in care homes and their loved ones by signing our petition today.”

Its about time they realised we are not a public service anymore we are a private company, after all it was those greedy barstools that sold us off.
